Annoying idle vibration after installing RE Engine Damper/torque Brace

After installing the Rotary Extreme Engine damper yesterday, I went out for the night & whenever the car was stopped at a light, traffic, etc., the idle caused this rediculous vibration on the entire cabin. Is there any solution to this or is it just something those with engine dampers deal with for the improved performance?

My car had such a perfectly smooth idle before this that I'm just not sure if it's worth the vibration...unless there's some sort of solution, I'll probably just put the damper in the for sale section for a little less than I bought it for.

If anyone's had a similar experience and possible a fix to it, I'd really appreciate any info. I've searched for input on this for mosty of the wee hours of the morning and haven't found any constructive info.

Oh...and please let's not have this turn into another debate on solid vs. damper braces....we've all been through that enough!

Thanks in advance,

Ian

I had it too. Just take off the bracket and place a rubber pad in and bolt the bracket back on. I was able to buy a large sheet of rubber from a local hardware store.

If you dont cushion the brace it will rattle the cabin...

anyone have an idea of what to use to cushion the brace? Wont the vibrations pass to the cabin via the bolts to the fender?

The rubber pad sounds good, but not sure what/where to get it.

Thanks,

Ian

Start bt mabe doubling up some rubber gasket material. Cut to fit. I bet the heel end of an old rubber sole of a shoe would work. Just cut to fit the mounting bracket. Cut out the bolt pattern.G

Rubber sole? Thanks for the idea, but anyone have any other ideas of a product made for an application such as this?

Just go to Home Depot and ask them. I'm sure the pads they make to keep furniture from scratching floors would work. The rubber ones that is.

Don't overthink this. It really is easy to fix.

I made my own brace and used rubber washers between the mount and frame which helped, but vibration is inevitable. Instead of your motor mounts absorbing it, it’s being transferred directly to the chassis. You could consider turning up your idle some. A few hundred RPM can make a bid difference on vibration in general. I adjusted mine to about a 1k. I think the only real way around this is to upgrade the motor mounts and bypass the damper / brace thing all together. (Although I can’t speak from experience as I still use stock mounts.)

I had an old silicone IC coupling sitting around that I wasn't using. Just cut a piece off of the coupling approximately the same size as the torque brace fender mounting bracket and position the silicone piece between the bracket and fender, then bolt it up. The other thing to do is adjust the rod end to eliminate as much play as possible before attaching the bolt to your UIM bracket. This helped mine significantly. The only time mine rattles now is when I'm using reverse. Let us know if any of this helps!

Thanks for the info...I do notice the vibration stops when I give a little gas in nuetral....how can I increase my idle? I'm still running the stock ECU...my next purchase is the PFC, but I just can't do it right now.

TIA

You can use the idle adjustment located on the throttle body. It's a screw located on the throttle cable. Basically, grab a screw driver and turn clockwise (I think) to turn up the idle a couple of hundred RPMs. You can do this with the car on and simply read the tach to view how far you have gone.
