Amazing Full LED Taillight!

Hey Guys, I'm trying to retrofit my tail lights, after doing some research, none of the lights in the market meet my requirements. So I decided to do it myself. I have a lot of experience in designing DC/DC current control converters also led drivers for car manufacturers, but I have zero optical knowledge. So I tried my best to make it as nice as I can.

My goal for this project:
1. No re-wiring, using the stock set up.
2. Reliable, not like other wire jumper soldered LED custom light
3. Turn signal should do sequential light
4. Brake Light should have all led light up include turn indicator
5. Turn signal will not be affected by any circumstance, even when brake
6. With brake, after turn signal canceled, all led should back to light up.
7. Full LED
8. Plug-Play

To achieve my goals, I designed a controller board with a power management microcontroller to do DC-DC current control. Current control is widely used in the manufacturing and automotive industry. It is very important for LEDs to use current control cuz any over current or spikes in the current will easily damage the LEDs. Just hanging an LED with a resistor in serials like most cheap solutions in the maket into the car system might cuz LED failure when we cranking our car. Spikes in the voltage turned into the current and short the lifetime of LEDs. So current control with protection is a must be in my project. Another micro-controller on the load board doing sequential LED and logic detections. I wrote firmware for both controllers. After a lot of tests and revisions, l come up with the latest prototype and I would say most complete of my project. I use 4-layers PCB to make sure it’s strong enough and use quality power LEDs Vishy and Cree. The LED load board it’s a whole piece with a controller board mounted back. It’s currently on my FD and it turns out amazing! I also made an other pair for sale now, very easy installation plug and play. I don't have any spare parts to make the third one, it will need to start from PCB manufacturing and the turn out time will be more than a month. So if someone interested just let me know.

I prefer the original style with big square sections of light, but your design looks nice and your board looks very well-made. How does it install, did you need to cut the OEM lights or did you just heat them up and separate the pieces?

Looks awesome! Not my cup-o-tea, but I think many here will be interested. Good luck, and you should post this to the group buy / interest section. It is active there.

Good effort, but looks like a lightbrite.

There is a littlte mod to get the LED load board fit in. Here is a pic shows the cut. It should be very easy for most people.
Once you cut the plastic, you can put the load board in and fasten it with 3 screws
