Alwan16's RX-7 Engine Removal Notes

With so many engines going out lately including my own I took notes and have posted up a web page with my own experience of putting in a Mazda Reman. This includes almost every connections and part that I disconnected to remove the engine/tranny together as a unit. There have been many threads on the forum about what exactly there is to disconnect and they have never been close to complete. While my notes are not the end all to removing engines I think it should help others in the same situation with what to do and whether they need to bring their car to a professional.

I now have 170 miles since I have finished my project and everything is working great. Tell me what you guys think. Oh yeah, watch out modem people. There are quite a few pics that need to load up.

~Alex

right now, i think this is the most complete write up to yank an engine, the only thing missing which would have made it a classic is pics to show us dummies what/where some of the nitty gritty nuts and bolts are.

in anycase, good job man, this should become a stickey

Thanks guys. I was very unsure if I could handle the project myself but surprisingly everything went reasonable smooth although it took a couple weeks longer than planned.

Nice job, reminding me to finish my write up.
Any reason you choose to remove it with the tranny attached?

well after reviewing many posts on the forum i decided the concensus was that engine w/ tranny attached would be easier. either way the results are the same. w/ the tranny may be easier for first timers like myself but you have to have a load leveler for sure.

Because, leaving the engine attatched to the tranny , and deattacthing it after its out of the car is SO much easier then trying to line up the tranny with the engine while the tranny is still in the car. RE-attacthing the tranny with the engine outside the engine when u get a new engine is 20x easier.

thats news to me.... never a problem the hoist and a prybar couldnt take care of. i think most would rather undo, what is it... 7 14m bolts on bellhousing and a few on the pp than to drop the entire PPF and all that BS.
