Aluminum intake piping and strut bar problem

I installed aluminum intake pipes and the strut bar does not have enough clearance to fit now. The top pipe is in the way. Is there any known way to fix this problem?

Also, the intake elbow that goes to the throttle body is made out of plastic. Someone told me that some years came with an aluminum one. Is this true and where can I get one that’s not plastic?

Here is a picture of what I mean.

Thanks

The metal one is the Greddy Elbow. I have a 95 and it came with plastic.

it looks like the angle of the pipe is making it not fit. If it was a straight shot it might clear, but it angles towards the strut tower.

has anyone installed the hard intake pipes and not had any problems with the strut bar? If so where did you get the pipes and what brand were they?

All stock intake elbows are plastic. Some are silver, but they are plastic too.

Try putting some spacers under the strut bar mount. Be sure that you dont make it so high that the bar hits the hood.

Which strut bar are you using (or trying to use)?

Cusco Front Strut Bar. I'm pretty sure no strut bar would fit. Spacers wouldn't work either.

That's what I was thinking. Better to bend the pipe now than the hood later.

curved pipe

The aluminum pipe I used has a bend in to allow passage under the strut. I purchased it on EBAY.

The M2 hard pipe set was the best fitting that I have ever seen or installed.
Especially the forged bottom piece. Better that the cheap EBay ones.

Yours is straight and does not have the bend to clear the strut brace!

Net Seven, I'll have a similar setup as you. I haven't put the strut bar back on the car but I will try it tonight and see how the fitment is... You may just need to cut some of the pipe down on the turbo side to bring the bend back towards the cabin a little more.

Sorry for the crude pictures but I have no fitment problems here (Cusco strut bar with eBay intake pipes). I didn't even hook up the part completely so you can see its even sitting further down than it should.

I had a very similiar set up as well, only with the OEM strut bar. I had no problem with it fitting after I installed the aluminum hardpipes. I did have a problem with my aftermarket intercooler pipe clearing the strut bar though, I ended up getting it to fit with a little work.

Hmm your pipes look like they have more of a bend to them. Which ones off ebay did you get?

The Paypal sale links to http://www.racingdimension.com/ (which apparently isn't doing anything right now). I bought them almost a year ago so who knows. I picked up the pipes for $24. The lower pipe was useless. They came with blue couplers if that helps (but I didn't use them).
