Unhappy alternator install..

yesterday my alternator went out so i went and got a new one from carquest. I undo both bolts get the belt on, and start the car the car dies and i notice that the belt is off the main drive. so then i unbolt everything again and line the belts up but now i can't get the belt on the alternator. If i completely take out the bolts on the alternator it lines up but then i can't get it back into place. is there some other pulley i need to loosen? like the air pump? and where is the pivot for that located at?

I didn't have to adjust any other bolts to get the belt on. Put the belt on the alternator first, then slip it onto the water pump pulley. The water pump pulley has a rounded edge, so you can just slip it on. Good luck with it.

I had the same problem with mine yesterday. First i would make sure that the pulley on the new alternator is the same size because when i got mine it was larger than the one on the car. If you can barely not get the belt on you can try taking the pulley off the alternator, put the belt on it and slide it back on. Thats what worked for me.

Black bracket with a long "slit" where one of the bolts on the airpump goes. Just loosen up that bolt, and adj.

Bottom of the air pump has a long slotted bracket. It pivots on the top bolt.

Which method did you use to install the belt?

Here is a link to pull the ECU codes: http://www.rx7city.com/ecucodes.htm

Jump TEN and GND with a paperclip. Turn the ignition to ON and count the number of flashes on the CEL light. For double digit numbers, the first number will flash, then a pause, then the second number will flash.
