Please HELP new FD buyer!!
Hi
I only have a few hours to figure some things out about a 93. I drove a couple hundred miles to see the car and I have to leave the area early tomorrow.....the car has a new engine with 3000 km on it. I've been reading everything about these cars to learn as much as possible....I have some questions and help would be appreciated....\from what I've read, the car after being driven and warmed up should hold at least 16 pounds vacuum?? but it was only holding about 13 or so...so I'm concerned about seals and compression?...I should have a compression test, but I might not have time to get the car in....should I be worried?....the car drove CRAZY strong....it was modded....intercooler, rad, exhaust....with a little extra boost....could this allow for lower acceptable vacuum numbers or is there no excuse for that other than weak seals??? THANKS for any help..

If the rebuilt engine has been ported then you could expect a vacuum reading in that vicinity.
You don't want to rush in - I'd be changing my plans (if possible) so I could stick around longer to get that compression test. Even better, find someone who knows rotary engines to come check it out......

I wouldnt think anything would be wrong with the engine after only 3km..but you never know. What else is on it besides ic, exhaust, more boost? Yeah and just get a comp. check to be sure..

make sure you think about it. have him or you do a compression check on the car. I wouldnt advise it if its at night. You cant really examine anything or see if NE thing is wrong

Where in canada are you?
I agree with the others - the only FD deal you can't afford to pass up is where you would still come out financially even if you had to dump a new engine and turbos into it - since that is often the case in 'too good to be true' deals. It happens, but not often.
If the seller makes it sound like the car is ready to fly off the lot, they're probably lying. There will always be another like it later - let them sweat it out.

hey dave read this...you'll laugh
I live in Windosr, but that took place in Toronto...at some ****** used car lot...the guy was a fool....he knew nothing about the car, all while trying to tell me that i didn't...he went full boost and redline without warming up first....then after the drive he shut it down with no idle cool-down!..the car even had a turbo timer!..I was like "what are you doing?!"....I felt sick for the car even though it wasn't mine....someone had it set up decently, but this fool should not have been touching the car...it gave me no comfort at all....also, neither the stock nor the aftermarket oil pressure gauges were working...so i simply asked him about it and said I'd likely get an internal oil pressure check along with a compression test and he was defensive, rude and completely discouraged me with everything I asked ...he was an idiot...he also said that gauges are put on cars mostly to look cool and noone knows what they're for anyway...he said "like EGT..whats this? noone knows what these are..." I said "I do and do you even know what a turbo is?"...and at the beginning of the test drive when he started driving he said "i don't just let anyone drive this car...you've never handled a car like this.."....I said back..."you don't know me and you have no idea what I may have driven...i have a Dodge with 400 hp at home..."....then he said "american horsepower isn't the same as Japanese horsepower"...he was the biggest idiot I've ever talked to.....makes me think a private sale might be good...i'm exchanging emails with a different guy with a yellow 93...total opposite experience...he's being 100% open about all info of the car etc, and appears to have taken proper care of the car.....you guys are right....this would be one of the last cars in the world to make a rush decision.....

Glad to hear you walked away. That is a very difficlut thing to do, and I know from a personal experience. I once met a similar "Used Car Saleman". There must be like a pre-requiste for that job; You have to be a total *** clown to get hired.
Stick with a private seller, and buy during the day with compression test all lined up. Good luck with your quest for an FD.
