Looks nice but for the same price or less you can get a 200 amp unit that is a direct replacement from Excessive Amperage:

Wow, that website is nasty!

Looks like they do decent kit, though .

I imagine you have to enquire to get a cost and find out your options?

Website is old school for sure. I've had one of their alternators installed for a number of years and it works great. They take an OEM unit (you don't have to send yours in, they source units themselves) and then hand rebuild it to your specs. I went with a 200 amp unit because of the large draw I had back in the day. Swapped around my approach to fuel pumps and probably could get by with a 150 amp unit that pushes 110 amps or so at idle but more amps is not bad.

Most guys don't think about amps at idle and this is one of the issues you'll have as you load up the electronics, both for the engine and for the stereo. Things like ignition amps can really drive up your needs at idle so discuss this stuff with them. You can go to most any garage that has an amp testing unit to determine your amps at idle. Start the test with nothing turned on and then start adding load by turning on, one at a time, your ac, lights, stereo, etc. to determine total load at idle. Wait until your engine warms up and the radiator fans kick on to complete the test. You might be surprised at the number of amps you need. Mine was a little over 100 amps and if I recall correctly, the OEM alt drives like 60 at idle. One way to get more alt amps at idle is to use a smaller alt pulley but be careful doing this as the alt will spin faster at the upper RPM range so you need to factor this (can the alt handle the high RPMs?) in as well.

Yes, give them a call and they will spec out something for you and give you a cost. Final note, to keep the alt cool, consider, instead of powder coating the unit (which they can do for you), using a ceramic "thermal dispersant" coating (TDL) instead. I don't know if they've done this but that's the route I'd go if I did it again. Mine is powder coated by them and that actually traps the heat in versus letting it out.

Is this where you got yours? Looks good! Although I don't see a "Mazda" category on the site... Is it listed under another model?

^ Just give them a call they can set you up with something that will work. I ended up using an alternator for a Subaru but their design is modular so they should be able to accommodate your needs. They also supply an adapter harness so you can plug right into your OEM wiring.
