Cool All Rotary Studs post your 40 to 140 mph times!

Do me a favor, guys. Find your favorite stretch of deserted highway with a pal riding shotgun [if you want to keep it exactly even I had Kan with me and he weighs about 95 pounds, so find a light buddy ] with a stopwatch, and slow to 40 mph in 2nd gear. Punch it (start the stopwatch), and don't let off until the very top of 4th, 8000 rpm at ~140 mph. I did it consistently in 14 seconds flat, and was running 1.14 (~16.2 psi) on the power fc commander. For a frame of reference, the big bad new 500 ci 500 hp 525 torque Viper SRT-10 did it in......15.1 seconds .

I'll be very curious to see what times people with varying setups post. This is a great way to compare BNRs vs stock turbos vs Pettit upgraded twins vs GT3540 vs M2 upgraded twins vs T-78 vs etc etc....

I suppose it would be faster if we did this from a dead stop to 140mph, since I never tried it from 40-140, but I do have some results with my Gtech from a dead stop to 140 mph. I will see if I can try that tomarrow with a buddy, probably not TTT, since hes 4 times my weight .

I'll try to remember to try that this weekend after Kan tunes my car. I'll program my Vericom to give me the time from 40mph to 140mph. I'm guessing it will be less than 13 seconds.

I have a datalog of 12.2, going from 60-140 in fourth gear only, car has to4s, running 15.6psi.
I have not checked the time accuracy yet on the datalogic, does anybody know if it accurate?

Rich....a one gear pull such as in 4th would make more sense......from a low mph up to 140mph or top of 4th.
IT would show both power and spool up.

2nd gear will be a major problem......even w/ Nittos it will smoke them

I can do a timing of 4th gear only, but there will be no smoking tires in 2nd gear for me - Racelogic Traction Control.

Well, I'm trying to replicate actual racing conditions, to include shifting. Intuitively, staying in one gear would lead to a slower time, but not having to worry about shifting will get some of that time back. I got some wheelspin in 2nd gear at 40 mph, but not enough to throw the time off much.....

Whats the point
Just go run a 1/4 mile
This test has too many variables to prove anything but luck.

I take it you miss shifts often. Are you trying to say that launching doesn't introduce a variable or two?

Starting at 40 in 4th is WAYYYY to low, it wont be anywhere near the powerband. You dont hit the powerband for 4th gear till at least 100.

If you want to do one gear then either do, 60-100 in 3rd or do 100-140 in 4th.

Me and Steve did something similar in my car when he was here but it was either 60-140 or 70-140 and it took me 10 seconds.

If you bump the starting mph from 40 up to say 70 then you only have to change gears once and its a 3rd to 4th which is just straight back and easy for most everyone to do fast.

I have an old video of my car when it was untuned (so I was short shifting at about 7200-7500 range) where I can sorta make out the speedometer and it appears that on that day, I did it in around 13 seconds flat. Hopefully now that the tuning is better, I should be able to improve on that time.

Mods: T04S single, full exhaust, intake, IC, PowerFC, 550/1600, 14.5 PSI

Brian

P.S. This was with my 250 pound friend riding shotgun! Tee hee!!

Wow is all I can say guys- I tried a 40-80 last night, and a 40-140, also.
It sucked. It makes me think shes not running as well as she could be- as my 40-80 was 1/2 second + over what a few people with my same mods are.
The 40-140 took 39 seconds
Reasons: Ran out of breath completely at 120.
Why it ran out of breath: my tach is broke- I went into 5th at about 120. We got to 120 in about 25 seconds.
Horrible! Im ordering a PFC and exhaust within the month. And im STILL waiting on my spark plugs to come in.

Roger that.

I'm planning on trying again once I get back, this time with the stock wheels on. I've also made a few minor changes to the car, to include getting rid of the flapper door in the stock exhaust manifold, so it'll be interesting to see if the time is any better.

Radkins, your car pulls strong as **** for a stock twin car .

That's impressive, especially for stock twins... How much boost are you running?

I finally got to do this last night. I'm not sure if I should be disappointed or not.

Temperature: 75
Somewhat Humid
93 Touring with some school books and other crap in the back
240 lb friend in the passenger seat
15.03 seconds 40-140

I was running 15.8 lbs of boost on 100 octane.
Are my Enkei Aegis 18's killing me? I've been shifting around 7500 RPMs. I would rather be safe than sorry considering I drive the car every day to school and work.

Other mods are in the sig. Let me know what you think...

I'm not even sure if i should try this... I might be embarassed with the results. I'm gonna give it a go tonight if it stops raining early enough to dry the roads.

Its wierd, I raced a 02 mustang GT last night from a dig, and did 0-140 in ~35 seconds, where as i did 40-140 in 39 as my last post indicated.
I guess the 30degree weather difference helps. Or the fact that I have a PFC and midpipe sitting on my garage floor?

I beg to differ

I've been 170 a couple of times, once with only dp and cb and once recently. I'll tell ya, the BNRs especially pull in 5th gear like a **** compared to my old stockers.......
