Air temp sensor????

I have a 93 single turbo rx-7 with a gt40 and a ltx-12 microtech stand alone installed. The air temp sensor broke on my car and causes my ecu to read a temp of 32C. Can this effect my car during tuning and cause it to get hot during idle???
can someone give me all the cons of not having the sensor connected??? I also need a good recomendation for a new location of the sensor..

thanks

the stock location of the sensor works great, otherwize you can put it on the intake elbow, before the throttle plates.

the down side of the sensor not being hooked up is the ECU wont make the proper adjustments to your A/F ratio when the tempature changes. Its not so much of a problem when its hot, but the colder it get the leaner you will run.

I would fix this asap

Your probably not using the stock elbow anymore, but if it helps this has worked well for me. Out of the way of most things. It's hard to see in the pic, but the alternator, tensioner bracket and engine hook actually serve to protect it a bit.

I placed mine in the elbow pretty close to the oil filter, it's easy to remove the plug and hasn't interfeered with the changing of the filter (never damaged the sensor either)

I love it.. Hello...Anyone home?

That's a great price.

BTW I had to replace my sensor at one time. The bad sensor made the turbos glow in the dark and I got really bad MPG.

PM's work great if your in a hurry. Other wise you have to wait til I get a notice from my email that someone posted to the thread, and if it doesn't look like it pertains to me then i delete the email and move on to the next one. Did you need the sensor ? ? ?

It was sarcasm on my part for the thread originator totally glazing over your offer.. I don't want your sensor, I have two already.

LOL.....I love sarcasim, use it all the time ! ! ! ! Thats what sucks about reading a post as you don't always pick that up. Too bad for the guy that needed one as you can't have it and another forum member has scarfed it up. Even with your bump he missed it.

Just wondering if this is a popular mod and if there are any(possible) downsides to relocating the Air Temp Sensor.

Even though it may heat soak in the stock location, would the stock sensor be calibrated for heat soak?

Since you live where you might drive the car when it's cold or cool outside, I don't recommend it. At least not on the stock ECU. I did it late last spring and during the summer I loved it. I think the car ran better when it was hot. But later on that fall, it wasn't so good. When it gets cool (say... < 55' F.) it tends to run rich for too long, sometimes never fully warming up. It's was also probably worse since mine is in the stock plastic elbow, rather than a metal GREDDY one. My concern is that it might prematurely foul plugs , cause unnecessary carbon build-up and add to some slight fuel dilution of the oil. I'm watching it this spring and it hasn't been a BIG deal, but I'll probably relocate it back to the stock position...eventually.
YRMV.
