Ok, i have a clogged cat (assuming) and i have an old Mid pipe that i was going to take to a local exhuast shop and have them weld a HF cat into place on it. Now not all HF cats have ports for the Airpump to connect to. I dont want to remove my stock AP because of the know idle issue's and low vaccum that is associated with that. So what can i do if i use a cat that dosent utilize an AP?

 

easiest sollution get a cat that does

The only reason to keep the airpump is if you need it to pass emissions, I never had any issues with car with it removed, as far as idleing or vaccum. Also I had the PFC on my car

 

Oh, and the other solution is ditch the airpump, ditch the cat. Get a midpipe. HOLD ON BAY-BEE!

 

Weld a connection for the air pump to the midpipe while you're having the HF added. Might be tricky, but doable:

You can just leave the airpump in and find a place to zip tie the hose that used to go to the cat so it is out of the way. I am running a midpipe and I left my airpump on because I am running a chipped ECU.

BTW, raising the idle will not cure all the symptoms of removing your airpump, it will also cause poor throttle response. You can try pulling the airpump relay and drive around for a bit without a working airpump. If the idle and throttle response issues don't bother you, then just take it out.

 

I used one of J_J's new metalit HF cats with NO airpump hook-up and I passed smog with it here in Cali. I still have a functioning airpump, so I left the hose tucked up by the transmission.

Since you are in Cali, I would recommend keeping your airpump as there's almost no chance of passing smog without it (legally that is).

 

the airpump is on there but it failed smog check.

 

If you have a PFC, install your stock ECU back in and re-connect the 4 wires. Also, make sure you pinch your blow-off valve hose while it's in vacuum and keep it that way during the whole test, that way there is no chance of boost during the whole test.

rx76k, if you're having trouble passing emissions read the link I've provided, it will help a lot. And if you still have trouble search for threads by zerobanger. He had a hell of a time passing emissions and posted his trial and error and the results.

 

It's not the maps that was the problem, it was the fact that the airpump shuts off earlier with the PFC. Although I did not have an airpump hooked up to my cat, I suspect it is important for the function of the ACV.
