Air Pump
How many of you still have your air pumps, and if so do yours make that annoying screech when the clutch engages? Don't a lot of people get rid of the air pump? Are they really that important on this car?

thats not paint....
If it is screeching it is probably gone bad... They pump air into the cat so the exhaust wont clog it. If its bad you might want to get a MP or something so your cat wont clog. If you already have a MP then the air pump can be removed but you wont pass emissions unless you get a hook up.

You need it for emission at idle. Car will not pass dyno emission w/o air pump. With a PFC and datalogit, you can probably play with it to reduce fuel, otherwise, it's $1000 for the pump and $100 to replace it.
Get a GM electric air pump from a late model Z28 for $200.00 instead.

sounds like the bearing might be fried.
if you want another one, i have the one i took off of my car at about 74000 miles, as well as a relatively new belt for it (~9000 miles), along with all the hardware you need. i will sell it to you for $100. let me know.
