It doesn't look like it would work with any type of intercooler upgrade...

Thats some intake!!!But it must cost a ton, if indeed that is carbon fiber. es also brought up the good point of the intercooler.

That also appears to go to a slot in the '99 front end. It is beautiful and functional though.

One of the nices-looking things i've seen. Looks kike it might work w/ some medium intercoolers andmaybe some front mounts depending on piping config. Does GruppeM have a sight, w/ perhaps more pics?

Is there much airflow from where it appears to draw from?

If you got it I think you could only use a Blitz or SR upgrade that retains the most stock look and size.

On Renn-sports site, these are between 650-1400 bucks for BMWs.

GruppeMs jap site is a piece of crap...

I'd love to see more pics

Maybe it could work with an Apex'i or XS FM IC, but not with a Greddy FM, or the M2 IC's.

Looks like the Mazdaspeed CF air box. It runs around $1250 @ JT Imports.

Does anyone know what type of filter element(s) these use?

It looks like the 'dip' in the top is where the hood prop would go accross?

MMM...that is one gorgeous heat-shielded ram air box! Just think if you get this awesome intake box, you just might have to get a FMIC! Oh damn, I feel soo bad for you

I don't think a fmic will fit with this and really only the smaller aftermarket smics will. Disappointing becaue it is a nice piece of work

Looks like the biggest waste of money on an intake ever. It's really not that important to keep the filter sheilded. A simple metal heat sheild would do. And think about having to take it apart all the time to clean the filters.

That thing would not work with a front mount or any stock mount unless its a Greddy or stock replacement.

good point. the stock box is annoying enough, one of those would **** me off after a while.

Compatability aside, i don't know how anyone can say its ugly: its a work of art compared nearly every other intake on the market... most look like Jr. high shop-class projects that got a "B-".

I woun't bother starting a war over wether a full airbox, simple heat shield, or open filter is the best solution.

A couple of us down here in Wellington NZ are working on a proto-type at the moment for a carbon air intake that will use a couple of pod filters, sheild from the heat of the engine and take air from around the headlight and under the car ... it will bolt into a stock car and work with any upgarded IC. Will have pics of the 1st one in a car in the next couple of weeks, we will then fine tune the mould so we can 'pop' them out for other like minded rotor-heads.

Cheers
Shaun

That's damn nice lookin'.

Knightsports makes a similar intake, but theirs uses the SMIC duct hole for air which would probably limit you to a Greddy upgrade.

If that Group-M intake does not also use the hole in the SMIC duct and you have a '99 front end (or similar), then it doesn't matter what small SMIC you use (assuming fitment).
