Air filter relocation for better air flow

Hi Guys,

I need to move my air filter which is coming straight off the single turbo. Its really in a bad place cuz its sucking in all the exhuast heat. I was thinking of making a custom pipe and moving the filter elsewhere. wondering if you guys have some good places where the filter can be moved so it can get better air flow, some pics would be very helpful. Thanks

Unless you have a direct route for fresh air, it's not really going to matter.

If you have access to fresh air from somehere (un-used oil cooler opening, front vent from hood/bumper, or some other place), you can use dryer ducting to bring air straigyht to the turbo. Other than that, you may as well leave the filter where it is.

If you have a stock radiator, there is some foam on the side where the intake is. Removing that foam will allow some cool air in. If you don't track your car, this will not increase coolant temps enough to cause a problem.

the more bends in the piping the more restrictive it will be...so I wouldn't go to far away?!?! of course I have no data on this.

build a heat shield or a box...

here's the start of mine...I'd like to box in it in now. Just burnt out of working on her at the moment.

There really is no performance gain. Unless you can make a true ram air intake, it's not really worth the effort.

Mazda makes a nice one. Put a K&N in it, and modify it a little bit for a great intake system

I plan to use the front "empty" oil cooler as my feed into the box. Then of course I have to upgrade to a large SINGLE oil cooler...why didn't I stay stock

Would you use the "cheap bastard air box" mod on a single turbo? You ARE that dedicated aren't you?

I like you.

The Cheap Bastard mod is designed to work with a stock airbox. It could be used with an open intake, but would need some additional ducting to force air into it. By itself, it would provide very little benefit.
