After a year of sitting, what to do?
Hey All, after basically 9 months of sitting under a carcover in the driveway, all the components for my car have arrived, and have been bolted up, and will be taken to paint up next week. I was curious, what precautions should i take when i crank the car up for the first time in a while?
Before she was sidelined, i siphoned the gastank, disconnected the battery, and did a few other things. What should i be weary of when cranking the car back up? Of course, im going to change the oil and plugs before i crank her up, but i was just wondering if theres anything else that needs to be done (like fluid changing, etc?)
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

you could have rust developing in your gas tank from it being empty. Anytime your car sits for an extended period the gas tank should be full. This prevents moisture from damaging the tank.

I doubt you got all the old fuel out of the tank, It would be worth your while to put as much fresh gas in the tank as possible and jump the fuel pump on (as in the fuel filter change and purge process) till the fuel apears fresh. Oil change would probably do more for you if it wasn't too old before the car was parked, (if it has alot of miles on it change it first and again right away) I would put less than 500 miles on the startup oil Change the fuel filter ( not good if it's been dry all this time) oil filter change and good luck with putting her back on the road.

crud. . .rust in the gas tank. . . would it be extreme, to the point where i would have to replace the entire gas tank/fuel system? Also, how would i tell if there was indeed rust in the gastank? Im positive i wasnt able to siphone all of the gas, but it was pretty much near the bottom, as instructed by a mechanic in the area. . . .
Also, CantGoStraight, the purge process, would that process be in the Mazda Workshop Manual? If not, could you lend me a hand, or a link if this has already been covered?
I appreciate you guys' help, as im going to take care of as much as this as i can tomorrow morning-night.

Just fill your tank and try it out. If you'd like remove the fuel pump/sender assembly from the top of your tank and take a look. You're probably fine I just wanted you to be aware of a possible issue.
