Advice from FMIC owners

Whats the best way to keep the FD cool with a FMIC? I know that the radiator isn't cooling effciently since its being blocked completely by the FMIC. How can I increase the efficiency of the radiator?

Does it make any sense or is it possible to install a Nitrous Express N-Tercooler on it to spray NOS on the radiator to cool it? Might be a dumb suggestion, but I like to hear from the pros, or those with experience.

In traffic I know FMIC FDs don't run so well, so trying to figure out a safe way to keep the engine running cool if no air is flowing to it.

use water injection. its cheaper to fill than spraying the nitrous all the time.

Sitting in traffic, all IC's/radiators have the same problem.

As for FMIC's, the best thing you can do is some custom ducting to bring air to your radiator from under the FMIC.

There used to be an IC made by TurboStreetFighter which came with a custom duct to bring air to the radiator, however the IC was quite pricey.

Just wondering if there was anyting out there already that I could buy.

Forgot to mention, that with the A/C condensor on, it dramtically causes temperatures to raise when on.

I was thinking of aquamisting stuff, does it work to lower water temps?

One more question.

I was thinking of getting higher performance fans, I know the stock fans are great for the stock radiator, but I have a fluidyne which has more surface area, so would it make sense to get a higher performance fan?

Aquamist is for your intake temps, not your water temps.

People have been switching over the the '99 radiator fans. They apparently are lower voltage as well as a little higher CFM.

What are your temps like currently?

Certain model WRX STi's and Lancer EVO's spray water onto the outside of the intercooler. You might want to do this for your IC / rad. You could rig something up using junkyard parts.

FMIC with A/C sounds like you're too indecisive on what you want your vehicle to do. Go fast or be comfortable? Our cars are pretty fast stock.

Why not install a fan right between the intercooler and the radiator. I was thinking of doing this to my Greddy unit. It wouldn't be all that hard mount in directly on the back of the IC core. You could wire it up to a 160 degree thermo fan switch for automatic operation or do a manual route. Oh, don't forget the relay.

I have NEVER had any issues with the FMIC. If your going to road race however, you may experience higher water temps than you would like to see(on the track).

What are your water temps now? Even with 95 degree days here in Okinawa, my water temp normally stays right about the temperature where the thermostat opens.

Good idea, now I have to do some research to see what fans will fit and how it will mount.

If you do this let me know!

Do a search and you will see even with a aftermarket radiator or FMIC there will be cooling issues. Not saying it is overheating, but sitting in traffic it will raise up pretty quickly, but when at speed there isn't any problems.

Maybe there are no major traffic in Okinawa? Do you ever sit in traffic and not move for 10 minutes in a 95 degree day?

ptrhahn was kidding.

BTW, you never posted what coolant to water percentage you were running?

Yea, but he probably doesn't have nearly as much stuff removed from under the hood as you do.

I'm surprised I didn't see a post about a fan mod. I don't have any problems sitting in traffic for a long time. I'm using the Greddy 3 Row fmic, Fluidyne rad, and fan mod. My water temp is around 85C sitting in heavy traffic.

Also, aftermarket fans are not worth it, because the stock fans work great and outperforms the other fans. However, I'm not too sure about the '99 Spec fans, I'll have to do some research.
