SR Motorsports Rebuilt Turbos

A while back I bought rebuilt turbos from SR. Wanted to pull the old ones, have DP coated, and install rebuilt ones. Hopefully 3 weeks.

Well, I installed the rebuilds and the oil inlet didn't line up. Double checked everything, asked RX7 list advise. Finally dropped the car off the jacks to get in the attic to the old turbos.

It was immediately apparent the turbo cartridge housings weren't in the same position. Called SR about 4 weeks after I'd bought them - was told it sometimes happens, just loosen the bolts and rotate the housings.

Now I'm working on the garage floor, under jacks, dependent on the wife for transportation and help getting turbos on and off. It took a while to get the inner *and* outer housings lined up. Plus I had to fit the SR cold airbox.

Finally started the car - and it started smoking badly. Turned her off, put car back on jack stands, and next day tried again. It looked like the turbos were leaking *exteranlly*. Pulled the turbos the next weekend to make sure I hadn't done something stupid before calling SR. Turbos were leaking from both C-clips, the rear exhaust housing gasket, a couple misc bolt heads, and the T1 output was covered in oil. From 5-10 minutes of idling.

Called SR. Was told I had a 30 day warranty from *date of purchase*. After several "discussions" all they'd do was credit me toward new turbos. Even though I'd called with problems about housing alignment right around the 30 day period. Then called back with problems getting their cold airbox to fit. They knew I'd had problems, and most of the 3 extra months was spent trying to work around their product issues.

New turbo credit didn't make financial sense - I could get a rebuild for under 1k, and *brand new* '99 turbos from RP were cheaper than what I'd pay for trade in toward new SR regular turbos.

I've now spent over $3k with SR in the last 6 months. It looks like I'm out ~$1300 and 3 months of time (not counting cold airbox problems). I thought SR was a good dealer with good products, and took care of problems. They knew I'd had issues with the turbos and airbox, and was working off the garage floor. It wasn't as if I'd run the car for 4 months then reported problems.

Is this an isolated incident? Anyone else have problems with SR stuff, especially their rebuilt turbos?
