Unhappy adjusted TPS, more problems!

After installing my PFC a few weeks ago my idle decided to be a little wacky/hunting/high. It hunted around 1300-1500rpm until I turned on my AC in which it would stop hunting and just sit around 1280-1320rpm. SO I decided to adjust my TPS accordingly, so I did and got the idle down to 600-700 rpm but here comes the problems. First off my car is blowing quite a bit of thick black smoke and the engine is running really rough when the smoke is coming out. Is it possible that my turbos are leaking so much oil (they are definitely leaking oil) that before when my idle was high the car would just combust the oil with no problem, but now since my idle is where it is supposed to be there is too much oil being combusted? ALSO, before I was boosting 12psi fine now my car will build to around 10psi (boost guages + PFC reading) but it slightly stutters and feels like its only boosting 5psi -- there is no power?! This is whacko! I did find that the 2 nipples on the back side of the UIM (towards the firewall) are causing a vacuum leak, there is a very good chance they have been leaking for a while though.

Thanks guys.... ::

When you say you adjusted the TPS, does that mean you adjusted it to be within proper specs or that you fiddled with it to adjust your idle?

I fiddled with it to adjust my idle. THe commander read .82 vta1 (or whatever) then I adjusted it to .40....it stopped the idle hunting, but now the car just runs like ****...won't go above 7.5psi....I didn't mess with anything else. I don't understand how it could happen?

download the shop manual and somewhere in there it tells you how to adjust your tps correctly. oh, just read up and it looks like you need one of their SST.

This post may help a little (but then again maybe not because I can't find what voltages are within spec. maybe someone else now where to find those)

Once you figure you TPS voltages out your PFC will need to relearn the idle.

Very, very bad idea. The TPS is what tells the computer how much throttle you are giving the car....there are other ways to properly adjust the idle speed.

You need to read through the service manual, Section F has all of the proper voltage specs for the TPS and how to adjust idle speed.

Okay, so I don't have the SST but the threads on adjusting the TPS I've read all just say "do this, do that, then adjust the TPS".....How exactly do I find out what I should adjust it to? It seems like most people just adjust it until their cars are idling right.

I am reading the shop manual and see .75-1.25v for narrow range and .1-.7v for full range when the throttle valve is closed. All I can think of is to adjust the bottom screw on the TPS because my narrow range could be out of sync, does that seem right?

Thanks guys....

Angry

okay I've adjusted it all I can, and I just CANT seem to get the VTA1 at open throttle to get above 3.70! What is happening? At open throttle VTA2 is always at 4.97 according to this that is fine (VTA2 = narrow gauge I am guessing)

"2nd from the top (green wire with red strip), this goes to the 3F ECU connector. Closed throttle +V range is 0.75 to 1.25. Fully open throttle +V range is 4.8 to 5.0.

Bottom (black wire with green strip), this goes to the 3G ECU connector. Closed throttle +V range is 0.1 to 0.7. Fully open throttle +v range is 4.2 to 4.6. "

my readings are from the FC Commander...I can set the closed throttle VTA's to anything but the open throttle VTA1 wont go above 3.70 and VTA2 never budges from 4.97.....WTF?

MAJOR HINT :

Warm up your car before adjusting the TPS so your fast idle cam is in its correct positon or you wont get correct VTA1 open throttle ranges!
