Release bearing = Throwout bearing.

Pilot bearing is in the end of the crank, if it isn't bad, clean, regrease and install the new clutch. It isn't easy to get the old bearing out of the crank and if they are lubed up and have a SEAL in good shape the pilot bearing will last a long time.

I agree. And I don't know how easy for the rest of you guys but removing/reinstalling the transmission is not something I like to do. To me I know I would just say screw it and spend the $10.00 now rather than risk finding the old pilot bearing being bad or going bad 5 miles down the road after you get everything back together.

Just get:

Throwout Bearing(Release Bearing) which you already have right?
Pilot Bearing
Pilot Seal

And see if you can find someone to rent you a pilot bearing removal tool. It's pretty much a must for removing the pilot bearing. I actually ran into the problem of not being able to find a pilot bearing removal tool anywhere for rent or even to buy. So I had to have my dad(McGyver) fabricate a pilot bearing removal tool out of a bolt, a socket, a screwdriver and some pliers to pull the old pilot bearing out.

And get some loctite and some grease so you'll have it for use when things start going back together.

Usually the pilot bearing comes out fairly easily if you have the right tool. Make sure you have a good bearing puller. Make sure it fits tightly before you try to pull the bearing out. It can be a pain if you mess it up.

Always replace the pilot bearing, and seal, when replacing the clutch

I've never done a pilot bearing on my FD yet, but I've done it on other cars and its not to bad, You just need a slide hammer and a pilot bearing attachment. Both availible as a free rental form autozone.

yeah, they take a deposit when u get the tool, but u get the full amount back when u bring the tool back. So in the end its free.

If you go up there, they have a little pamplette with all the tools they rent out.
