AC stalls car, not clutch switch

Well my searches have turned up nothing. Any idea why turning on the AC would immediately stall the car? I've already gone through the clutch switch issue and this is different. I can even hold the RPMs up at 2000, but as soon as I hit the AC switch it tries to kill it despite giving it gas. HOWEVER, just to make this a little trickier, if I turn on the AC while cruising down the highway, I get cold air. I can definitely feel it cycling though.

Any ideas what would need fixing? Compressor? There's also a chance of a pinched hose on the condensor, as it was pulled down to make room for a big FMIC. I don't remember this happening the same time that mod was done, though.

Any tips appreciated. I hate to leave the car with an AC expert if I can avoid it since it seems like everybody wants to go joyriding in my car as soon as I leave........

your compressor is grabbing and the pipes are either blocked or the magnetic clutch is frozen. a pinched hose would do it if it was almost completely closed.

Do you have a means to check High side pressures? That would be a great indicator if it was something in the AC system and not something with idle management.

Edited, OHOH, reread the post. Possibly pinched hose and feeling the car cycle the compressor clutch? Sounds like a highside blockage. That will do your compressor no good. There is a high side cut, but running the compressor against it often will kill your compressor.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like a compressor might be a good place to start? That was my gut feeling, but I know hardly ANYTHING about AC. Other than it's 95 outside and I want it back! lol I don't see any hoses that are pinched significantly.

I really don't think it's anything to do with the computer. I have a PFC and datalogit and so I'm pretty familiar with all that. All my idles are set to max. Plus, like I say you can feel the significant load on the car when I turn it on, so it's physically stalling it.

And for the record as far as I know the system has 150k miles on it and has never been serviced, other than for freon.
