Just chiming in my 2 cents. About 7 years ago I did a restore on my AC system. I bought 3 condensors, 2 sets of lines, and did a retrofit to make my MANA system use a denso drier. I replaced the compressor with a reman'd one from 93 Toyota Corolla (cost 120 vs 300-400 for the Mazda equivalent). For the drier retrofit, I sourced lines from a 1st generation Toyota Tacoma (95-04), which is also the same as a 3rd gen 4runner (96-02). They share the same drier so it was easier than trying to find denso RX7 lines. I had a local shop weld the lines the Toyota lines to the Mazda lines. I bought a new drier from NAPA. I can get better photos of the job tomorrow but the system held up except I forgot to replace the schrader valve on the low pressure side. That was the only downside to my rebuild. I could have probably used a better expansion valve too. I'll link to a post in my build thread where the pictures are.

Part 2 - AC Rebuild

I hope this helps.

Hey I know it's been a while since you posted this but I was wondering if you still have that compressor available? If you do what's the condition of it and how much are you asking for??

Check your local classic car auto body shop. Some classic shops have customers particular about using the same oem part and nothing new so that the car is all original.

I know you used parts from various Toyotas. Is it not possible just to get two Denso hoses and splice then in around the dryer, so I can keep everything else but switch the Denso dryer? Or is there more to it than that?

Thats exactly what I did. I had an aluminum welder splice the lines in from a 1st gen Tacoma / 3rd 4runner to get the denso dryer to fit.

Would you rather rebuild a stock ac compressor? Or wasn't there another ac compressor you could get from another vehicle that works?

I got a reman compressor for a corolla of eBay. I think I listed it. Gonna be easier than rebuilding it. Costs less than the listed fd one

Does anyone know where I can buy the connector that goes on top of the MANA A/C Compressor? Mine was crushed. I can unbolt it but I would need to find a replacement.

I found the DENO 134a compressor but that will require me to make customer lines going to the compressor and modify the BATTER TERMINAL HARNESS..

Hi all,

As I am finishing up refurbishing the HVAC under the dash, I wanted to share a few part numbers for some available ac parts numbers for a DENSO system. The dryer and expansion valve were both the correct fit and included the correct size orings.

The dryer is as follows ~ four seasons part # 33237. The new dryer is roughly 3/4” shorter than the factory installed one but seems to fit a little better. It included orings and can be had for around $20. Just a note in the second picture, the detent pin hole locations are in the centerline of the ports.

The expansion valve is as follows ~ DENSO # 475-2002. It is a direct fit and included the correct orings. Guess what? It’s also around $20.

Currently rebuilding (re-gasketing) a TV14C Denso Compressor that came on my 94 Touring (MANA) AC System. The system worked, but the compressor had leaking oil all around the seals. Using a guide for a Miata (and R134 compressor), but was lacking an exploded view. Came across these tonight for both R12 and R134 compressors. Figured I would post for future reference for Compressor parts. The seal kit I ordered was on the shelf nearly 11 years.

There's really nothing to the compressor...if you have one that turns I'm pretty sure it can be rebuilt for around $25 in seals and some oil. That's all I've spent to date.

This is my first attempt, but as with most items on our vehicles, I find I have a good chance of doing just as good as any rebuilt compressor off the shelf from any store. (Or screwing it up less for less money.)

I also spent hours looking for a replacement drier for the system (MANA). While no one has found one yet, I came across a few that appear a close match in size and fittings. I'll report if I find any that work, otherwise I found a shop that rebuilds driers...Autozone should have them all on my doorstep next week.

I believe I have. The two dryers for test fitting arrived and looked promising in person. I just haven't had a moment to go play with the car since New Years. I should get a few moments down there this weekend and I'll report back. I haven't forgotten!

I also found a company that makes a dryer with the bracket. Tho it doesn't look stock. Not sure they still produce it, I'll reach out to them again this Friday.

Have you had any luck?? I am currently in this situation, trying to find a solution for the Mana dryer. If I can't find one my backup plan is to go full custom lines but I would rather not!!

Have you had any luck? I am in the same situation, trying to find a dryer to go with my MANA lines. Plan B is to go full custom lines but I would rather not!

I should close the loop on my search. I found two companies that had listed a MANA replacement dryer, I called both and neither carry them any longer. They also weren't interested in trying to carry them in the future.

I tried Four Seasons 83160 and 83102. Both were close, but neither had an exact connection.

I haven't given up, so I'll post back if I continue. I may try to fab up some lines and change over to a denso connection.

I just went with the rx-8's combo of the condenser and drier mounted together. The shop is building fresh lines anyway so changing the connection fittings isn't a problem.

When you get your FD back from the shop, I'd like to take a peek at how they routed your AC plumbing. My FD has currently has zero AC components under the hood, and a ginormous FMIC & Megan racing AL radiator which is supposedly an OEM replacement. The rad currently sits a bit more vertical than the stock setup, so my preliminary engineering to restore AC will most likely involve going to a different IC, mounted in a stock or V-mount configuration, and installing the current Megan radiator in a less vertical (i.e. stock) configuration with TBD condenser, and fabricate the AC plumbing accordingly. The RX8 condenser/dryer looks like it might do the trick.

I am in the process of doing this also. I have it mounted on an old school Rotary Extreme v mount and I'm making all my lines with Eaton gh001 hose and ez clip fittings.

Sadly I won't be able to speak very intelligently on the actual process of making the switch. My car is in a shop 3,000 miles away and they're doing the work. I'll be happy to share pictures as I get updates on how they're integrating the condenser into the vmic. I suspect they'll be making use of their machine shop for a lot of custom mounting brackets though...

Luckily my old school RE v mount already has L brackets welded on and I mounted the condenser already. AC should be good to go in a week or so.
