one of my small diameter AC lines has a leak. The coupler was welded but didnt hold up. What can I do to repair the coupler or do I need to buy a new one. Here is the picture of the failure.

lots of people sell a/c parts in the classified section. you should be able to pick that line up for 30-50 dollars. Just make sure it is from a car with the same a/c system as you (denso vs Mazda North America or MANA)

 

How can I know the difference.

 

I just did the same repair and Ray at Malloy told me to check the dryer and if it's silver then it's the American model and if it's black it's the Japanese model. Call him and get a new one plus the dryer. If you open your system you will need a new dryer. I think the new one was like 73.00, which isn’t that, bad because the line comes with the sensor attached.

 

Confirm which side of the line is leaking and I can provide a P/N. Better yet, I have an American version AC system out of my parts car so I can sell you a new (used) line.

Its the bottom half that has a sensor. Im willing to be used if anyone has one.

 

Working on your AC system is like changing your oil. YOU CAN'T PUT A USED FILTER BACK ON YOUR AC SYSTEM OR SOONER THEN LATER YOUR COMPRESSOR WILL GO OUT!!!! The air dryer is like an oil filter and it catches everything, so once you open the system or it leaks out you are going to have to replace it with a NEW one, not a used one. There is a difference between cheap and stupid, but a fine line, please don't cross it with your AC system or you will be HOT!!!
