AC compressor shaft washer shims
Does anyone remember the number of AC compressor shaft shims needed to replace the clutch? I removed the clutch and pulley during a rebuild I began two years ago but I only have one washer shim in my parts to replace. The car is a 94' with the R12 Denso TV14 compressor. The Mazda parts manual shows three washer shims but I again only have one in my parts bag. I have found some replacement clutch kits online, one shows two shims and another shows three shims. The three shims are of different thickness, one 0.2 mm, one 0.38mm, and the other 0.51mm. Do all three go together between the clutch and the pulley?
Thanks
Mike

I think my compressor (94) only had one. The big thing is that the pulley can turn smoothly without hitting but when engaging the magnet to engage the compressor it makes solid contact and locks in place.
You should be able to bench test the pulley with a 12v source and ground I think.

Thanks Dale. I read up on some articles about air gap adjustments on AC compressor clutches. I will try the one washer I have and hopefully the gap is correct.
