? about installation of MSD digital 6
Hey guys, I'm fixing to get a MSD digital 6 from someone to install on leading. Since i dont have it yet I've never seen instrucitions.
Can somone comment on the installation? Is the msd pretty much just a amp box where you just splice in some wires and go or is it much more involved that that?
Can someone give me a brief overview of the installation of a MSD Digital 6 and what all it actually does(if anything) besides create stronger spark.
Thanks,
STEPHEN

you just splice in some wires, the hardest part will be figuring out where to put it.

Well, I've heard that there are some timing issues with using the MSD with some standalone computers. From what I've heard there are some certain things you have to do to use the msd in conjunction with a Haltech, I'm running a power fc and just want to make sure that it is in fact as easy as splicing some wires and that I wont end up getting into a big mess.
Does anyone run the msd with a Power FC???

To give you an example, here is what I've been told from another member thats running the msd setup with a Haltech...............

hey, stephen. the problems with installng an msd arise from use with an aftermarket computer system. if you are driving the msd with a haltech, like i do, you have to set it up right. this means making sure its degreed and locked physically to logically, so when the haltech sees TDC, that's exactly where it really is. (i forget a bit, but TDC is set at 5 degrees before actual or something...). also you have to set the charge time, make sure to set ot for rising edge, etc. if all you're dong is plugging it in with the stock ecu and feeding it from the igniters, its easier and several people have done this easily.
****************
I just want to make sure I can install it similar to how it would be installed with a stock computer running off the igniters and not go thru all this other mess thats needed with the Haltech

i would say you can, because the power fc acts like the stock ecu. the haltech has a bunch of settings to accomodate different cars
