Yeah, but aren't Japanese frequencies totally different than U.S. frequencies?

Also, not trying to make things complicated. I apologize if I have. I was actually trying to simplify things with the diagram that I posted in the other link for those people that want to do this type of conversion. Besides, the Spirit R unit is asthetically the same as a Protege' unit.

tt_13b93, you can't find stuff like this in the junkyard lol. Regular 93 - 95 parts are hard enough to find in the junk yard, let alone rare JDM parts

Joe, no worries man. The Japanese headunit in my Skyline picks up FM no problem. Sometimes it can be spotty, but it works. And I agree w/ tt_13b93, I use the headunits for playing CD's more than anything else.

Protege headunits are nice...but I'm always gonna stare at it and think... eh... close, but no cigar. Hence why I went all out and got a REAL Spirit R one Haven't installed it yet tho.

I understand Ramy. I thought the same thing about the redline e-brake & shift boot. Just not the same as an original Spirit R shift boot. Excellent quality, just not original.

I did put a Miata Bose radio in my car, and it sounds great. The eject and load button is a different style than what's in the Spirit R / Protege. Apparently, the headunits that came in the high-end U.S. cars (2002-2004 Miata LS & 2001-2003 Millenia) had black rectangle buttons instead of the clear round buttons.

The only gripe is the top up / top down setting in the firmware for the unit. I thought about calling Bose and see if it can be flashed, but then again, this car is sold. I'll probably buy another one, though. Just because I'm a glutton.

BTW: I took the radio out and put the factory unit back in. So, if anyone is interested, I do have this unit and would probably part with it for the right price.

Here's another problem for the owners with Bose. As far as I am aware, the Spirit R does not have Bose. I'm not even sure if it was offered at all on any late-model.
