Exclamation 99+ spec tail light conversion.

so this is for anyone who is wanting to do the conversion but is too poor
(or just doesnt want to spend $500) to buy the actual set or pay someone else to do it for them. i pulled the site from the archives so check it out! the pictures may not work but the instructions are all there.

you use a heat gun or an oven at the right temp to seperate them.

Be careful, especially with the original outer smoked lens, it is very easy to crack it as the heat from the oven (combined with 15 years of weather exposure) makes them very easy to crack. (and yes, I am speaking from experience)

i wonder how these will after they are put through the elements. i remember i painted my tail lights and they became dull and faded.

i would actually try black glossy vinyl.

I tried doing this but quit after trying to heat it up. I got scared i might crack or overheat something and might end up having to buy a new set after messing it up trying to do it the cheap way.

it's really not that hard. it shouldn't take more than an hour to do.

i've done several sets. just finished another set for a forum member last night, and someone else is sending me their set today.

here's how i do it:

after removing screws & heating with the gun; pulled apart:

inserts removed:

how i cut the 80mm & 75mm circles:

applying circles to inserts:

starting to spray paint:

circles removed:

re-heating the glue:

all back together:

result:

by the way, i like to use this kind of paint:

yes... that person would be me. my set is on the way to theorie ...

btw having your lights converted you would:

- saving money (yeah a lot)
- keep the DOT approval seal so cops won't give you fix it ticket.

the bad is now I can't drive for 7, 10 days...
