yes, replace rebar or cut the ends off the old.

Turn lamps will not fit at all on the 92-95 oem re-bar. The 99 turn lamps are too large for the 92-95 turn lamp holes.

Just get the bumper, lips, and the corner lights. My local body shop was able to install them with ease.

$14500 USD sounds a little pricey if, you know what i mean. RX7store.net's price for the whole entire kit is the cheapest I know of. Always nice to have the rebar but it is not really necessary.. other than safety of course.

btw: You may also need oil cooler ducts. Chuck at RotaryExtreme.com could supply those for you. He also sells the urethane 99 bumper w/out plate holder.

you dont need to cut off the ends of your stock rebar. if you go thru all the trouble to cut that much off you might as well not have one at all. all you need to do is trim out the place for the lights. there is a good write up in the interior/exterior section of the forum. has good pics too. made things alot easier than hacking up the whole rebar.

Well.. my 99 spec front bumper ended up costing a lot more than I had planned.

Bumper + Rebar - $900
Paint - $250
Lip - $200 shipped
Lights - $170ish..

Plus one of my mounting brackets for the bumper was trashed, still looking to get one.

I would have modified my stock rebar, but it was destroyed from a light impact.

I found the write up on this, but there wasn't much detail on what to measure and how much to cut so I wouldn't go as far as to say it was good. I would rather cut the ends off than to have ghetto enlargements. I'm sure if you take your time, it can be made to look a whole lot nicer.

Personally, I think cutting the ends off is more "ghetto" than enlarging the holes for the turn lamps. Not like you really see the rebar anyway...

So who gives a **** whether it is enlarged or cut off then???

There is one point here that is missing. The front of the FD is fragile, period. Full rebar or old rebar with trimmed ends isn't going to make a damn bit of difference on a frontal impact unless at a very small MPH.

I love my Pettit w/ no plate. Beautiful craftsmanship as well, body shop said it was a breeze to work with. And I didn't buy a rebar.

Because it might affect how the urethane bumper holds up over time, hopefully preventing sagging. I don't have any proof, but I'm keeping mine on because it makes me feel better.

You probably didn't need a rebar because the pettit bumper is fiberglass.

I know with my RE 99 spec front I tried trimming and triming the holes, finally relized that the top and bottom of the rebar ends was still hitting.

Point being if you are installing the RE 99 spec, cut the end off period.

yeah the rebar is only kept to prevent sagging...you build it up with expandable foam which supports it. and that actually works better than the 99rebar...even with the 99rebar it can still sag.

I have the RE 99 spec. So, why wouldn't it be possible to just enlarge the holes? If others have done it with the OEM 99 spec, why not with the RE 99 spec? It was made from a mold of the OEM 99 spec.

I have the RE 99 spec and I just enlarged the hole bigger. I didn't have to cut the ends off fully, and it fit fine. But honestly, it took a lot of trial and error, and after cutting the holes, there's not much material left on the sides anyways.

man as long as a shop is doing it you may as well have them do it right!!!

i did it myself....with a hacksaw which took forever because i was too impatient to wait for my air compressor to be fixed. i do have experience working in a bodyshop, i still work for one, but i can surely say the 99 is nothing to difficult! any of you who do your own mechanics should be able to handle it! ...save the actual painting part.

if u have a urethane really leave it!! mines been on a few days and being out in the sun it did sag a tiny bit under the lights. i would imagine it would be worse without the rebar.

anyway guys where can i get that foam? i read somehwere u need some sort of foam, but ive never heard of this expandable whatever it is stuff. i need some like i said, saggy in the light area! haha thx

I would also like to know what foam people are using. I found some expanding foam used to seal windows and cracks that looks like it will work.

also i should mention for those like me who cant buy the whole front end kit things some places sell...which can be 1-2k depending on whats in it or where you buy it from. i got my bumper, its urethane and no plate holder (not really sure the manufacturer but it looks exactly like rotary extreme) and i paid 328 including shipping! and it fits great. got it in about 2 weeks. on ebay from a company called jf racing. they do have a site somewhere where i think they sell it, im not sure how much it is there. i also bought replica signal lights for 140 on ebay which look and work great. so thats only like 500 total so far, i need the lip still, add 200, did my own rebar, then i need just 1 oil cooler duct thats 60 at rotary extreme. add paint, its all only 800-900 total. of course im doing full paint but im just counting the bumper here...just thought i would share, it can be done on a budget which is nice to know.

but yeah i want to know the foam people use!
