99 Rx-7 wheels

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in a while but I'm looking for some 99 Rx-7 17" wheels and heard there is a guy on the forum that sells used sets. Anybody have any contact info or know of other sources for these wheels? TIA

Nope, Snook is right. I'm not sure why people refer to them as 99+ when they're really more like 96+ The 17inch 5-spoke wheel was first available as standard equipment on the '96 RS model and were also painted black on a limited edition RX-7 model of that year, the RS-R. Ever since '96, the RS has always had that 17 inch wheel standard.

The only 16" wheel of the time was the same as the US spec. It was available on most models thru the end of the '98 year cars. It was replaced by a new 16" wheel for the '99+ cars which is probably the wheel you were thinking of.

Why would they go to a smaller wheel?

The 99+ "RB" models came the same size brakes as the the 93-95's. So they got the remodeled 16" wheels. They didnt go to a smaller wheel rather they kept it the same size. The RB has the single oil cooler and most were AT's.

The "96+" RS, RZ, and Spirit R Models came with larger brakes that only 17" 's will fit over. That is why they are 17's

I call them the 99+ wheels so that people will know what I am talking about. Jesse

Both. Anything AFTER '96 will have 17 X 8 Front and 17 X 9 out back. I've seen 275/40 Nitto's on the back of a White '99 that's why...

I never said they did. Try reading again what I wrote and understand that the context of "It" is in reference to the original 16" wheel. The original 16" wheel came on all US 93-95 FD's so most people are very familiar with it. The new style 99+ 16" wheel was apparrently improved in several ways such as each wheel weighing ~1lb less.

Nope, mazda still used 16" wheels as standard equipment on several models as jesse lau also mentioned through the 99+ models. The sizing on all the different stock 17's(5 spoke and various BBS types) has always been 17x8 front and 17x8.5 rear w/235/45 front and 255/40rear

Here's some pics for clarification. First, the new 99+ 16x8 wheels:

And here's a pic of the 96+ 5-spoke 17inch wheel:
