99 JDM brake ducts Question
99 JDM brake ducts Question
What the hell are these? I am managing my budget and want to know exactly how much I need to save to do the JDM conversion. Are these break ducts necessary? Any one have pics of this? Thanks in advance.
I can't quote you on a price, but i can explain what they are intended to do.
When you stomp on the brakes the pads squeesing the roter creates friction witch in turns creates heat. Well the transfer of engery into heat is what stops the car not the actual tires allthough they do play in a role on its traction from locking up. Any ways the brake ducts vent cold outside air on to the roters witch cool them down. If a roter gets too hot it will heat up the callipers then that will heat the brakefluid. Well when the brakefluid gets beyond its boiling point it looses its ability to push and instead actuly compresses. This is called Brake fade, which can cause tempory loss of maximum breaking power. So what the ducts do is actuly disapate heat more and greater incress the time that it takes for the fluid to reach boiling point.
I would like to add something though. Since I don't know if you ever heard of it. but increasing the size of the roter will disapate heat even better and what not. But rember that you won't stop any faster then the stock roter vs a bonez/powerslot/brembo roter untill you realy get on the brakes hard and get it to the point where the stock roters hit brake fade then thats when the other roters stop you better.
Only way to stop better then the stock roter before brake fade is to upgread the roter/and calliper but this is exspensive. Ohh and by the way sometime the biggest calliper/roter are not the best as they will lock up the wheels to fast and well Locked wheels is useless when trying to stop...................

Thank you for the explanation, I knew most of that, but not all of it. So I learned something
My main problem is not knowing where it is on the conversion. I look at pics all the time of the 99 spec conversion and I dont see it at all, maybe I'm not supposed to? Thanks again.

Hey I have the complete 99 conversion and I have seen cars without the duct's and it bascially look like a big hole down there or something is missing from the car, So in my opinion the car look's better with it on.

Thanks, now I know where to look. Are they advisable to get? Or are their benefits non-existent in real-world driving (I dont race at all)?
