97+ rear view mirror attachment

My question is, does anyone know if the part that fits between the mirror arm & the windshield on a 93-96 can be swapped with the updated part from a 97+. The mirror side is very different. I just need to know if they will attach as I have a Sexy new JDM mirror that I cannot fit

RHDjapan sent the wrong mirror, and it would be a PITA to have to send it back to Japan.

Cheers.

Pretty poor explanation on my part there...So here's a pic to help!

There is a part glued to the wind shield, to this is screwed the base. The mirror arm then attaches to the base.

I would like to know if I can attach a 97+ base to a 94 windshield.

Thanks in advance.

You will probably have to completely remove the '94 mirror attachement. It is only held on with adhesive. You can get the glue kit at any auto parts store. Be careful when removing it. The windshield is laminated and you can easily pull away a layer of glass.

Thanks for the reply. If that is the route I have to go...Then I will need to source a 97+ rear view mirror base kit. Does anyone happen to know the part # for one of these? Or better yet...A place I could purchase one? I can only seem to find part #'s etc for the pre 97 parts.

Thanks.

Very poor pics as its dark here & my camera is utterly useless in the dark (Hell...It isn't that great in the light )

Mirror:
http://www.rhdjapan.com/gear-man-win...m-mirror-56388

Pic of the new mirrors attachment:

Pic of the "M2" base a 97+ FD apparently has:

It specifically lists 97-02 FDs as compatible on the box.

I think you could also get this attachment for the window from other Mazdas. Glad you figured it out!

I would have that clip that attaches to the window installed by a glass shop or something. You really want it done right and glued on properly.

Prob a good idea! I don't really want to replace my windshield (Although I've found a pretty fancy heated front wind shield for the FD available).

Cheers Dale

Good luck getting the original one off..... I ended up cracking my windshield and buying a new one. My existing base was attached in such a way that the only solution was replacement of the windshield.

Base is B01W-69-240B. I'd be surprised RHD didn't already have the part listed on site, inadvertently ordered one a year or so back without checking for changes and subsequently had to find a mirror to suit.

And I though I was the only one. I suspect that if I was careful that I may have been able to saw through the adhesive with a wire, but I am not convinced. The glass cracked with surprisingly little force for me.

I was going to replace my rearview as well, but after the issues many on here have encountered decided to scrap the idea. Hopefully you can adapt it to work with the existing base.

I don't see that as a viable option unfortunately. If anyone can pull that off I'd be impressed

I know this is a few months old, but does the FD mount work with any other vehicles? eg: Ford?

Not sure about the early ones, but post 97 work with a whole bunch of Japanese cars.

Also, I got mine off without breaking my screen (Heat gun, brute force & a lot of glass cleaner)

Anyone have pics of the updated mirror? The links/pictures dont work. Dan, I have a sneaking suspicion that all the mazdas used the same base for that block of years, but only jason can answer that one

But does the mirror itself (97+) look any different or is it just the mounting points that changed?
