Question 96 nipple

hi, just a quick question. I have 96 turbos (idk if it make a difference) and the part circled in white just slides in the primary turbo? It seems stranged that it has no threads or O ring. I noticed it was loose and turns so i took it out because i need to drill out wastegate nipple for boost controller.

so just to clearify my question, Is it just suppose to slide back in? seems like 12psi would eventually push it out if not the first time.

Yeah that should be securely fastened to the compressor.

I suggest roughing up the nipple and using a thin bead of JB Weld to help lock it in and seal. Just be totally sure that no glue or epoxy runs down into the compressor.

Yep, that's a press fit into the compressor housing. It should be very tricky to remove, but if the turbos got bumped around some from shipping the tolerance could have gotten looser.

Either rough it up and JB weld like Dave said, or do what I did - drill the hole out for a 1/8" NPT tap, tap the hole, and thread in a brass hose barb. With my boost controller I don't need both nipples, just one, and doing that eliminated a nipple I'd have to cap up as a point of failure.
