94 - general questions

I own a 94 RX-7 and am looking for a couple of recommendations. I'm fairly handy having worked on all of my cars at one time or the other and am willing to work on the X, but know both my limits and my patience and my lack of time

* Where can I buy a good repair manual specifically for the 3rd gen X?

* Original muffler chrome tip broke off :-( I decided that even though muffler seems whole and working fine, I'd replace the whole thing. ANy suggestions where I can buy the whole muffler assembly: muffler, pipes, flange, chrome tips EXCEPT from a Mazda dealer. I'm not interested in one of those big pipes - I like the clean original look. I've looked on line and whenever, after clicking and clicking and clicking I get to the 1994 Mazda RX-7, I find nothing: pretty annoying

* The A/C has always worked fine. This morning I decided to turn it on. First I turned on just the fan - no air movement at position 1 or a position 2 or a position 3. At position 4 there was a banging coming from the passenger side. I'm assuming the fan is shot or being interphered with? I turned it off. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

* I am the 2nd owner of the car. It is red. Overall the finish is fine, except for the nose, where there is some pitting that's a little ugly. Is this standard with the X? I think the previous owner (a family member) didn't take good care of it. I'm considering repainting it the same color. Any thoughts on that? I'm not interested in a "bra". Iahdthat on another car and moisture collected under the bra and ruined the finish

* Name of a good - great RX-7 mechanic in New Jersey? The one Mazda dealer I went to in Shrewsbury, NJ (for another car) was extremely happy to take my money to fix things they broke. At this point I wouldn't let them vacuum the trunk

* Recommendations for purchaing X parts, both stock and performance on-line?

*Cheapie performance tweaks? I'm looking to maximize performance without spending a lot of money. Any specific oil fuel that you've been very happy with?

* Mazda: I really love their casrs and wish they had gone up against Honda, Toyota, and Nissan with a luxury line. I have a 95 Millenia S and it has everything you'd want in a car: looks, performance, safety, comfort, tight fit and finish, etc. It's just too bad. It's a little snugger than I'd like. If they had something to compete with the bigger luxury cars, I think they'd have some customers. In the same way BMW got people interested in performance, so could Mazda. Just my opinion

* thanks

All your questions can be answered with the stickies. Get the shop manuals from mazda and for all stock parts call Ray @malloy mazda, his phone # is around here somewhere. tell him you're on the forum and he'll hook you up.

the NE section has a ton of mechanic listings. good luck.

Thanks, I'm rapidly getting an education

and I've copied some of the graphics to my desktop. I like the low rider one and the chainsaw guy best.

I did find one vendor who had what looked like a nice muffler assembly for ~ $490. anyone know of a better price?

www.rx7store.net have fun. Also, don't call it the X, that reminds me of some supervilin. Lets go with RX, or 7? Or REX!

As mentioned, you can order one from any Mazda dealer. They are in PDF format on the web, but there's nothing like having a paper version right next to you while you are working.

As already mentioned, look at the Racing Beat dual tip catback.

Once you get the car repainted, look for a local shop who can do the 3M clear paint protection film:

Check in the North East forum:
https://www.rx7club.com/ne-rx-7-forum-30/

There is a thread in there about NE mechanics.

Lots of great information here

TX - for all the help. I did download the big (75 Mb?) PDF file version of manual. Now all I have to do is get back to work instead of reading about RX-7s and watching neat movies of them drag racing :-)

Those are boring movies, go here for some "neat" movies: http://fritz.sysadmin-racing.com/
