how much would you pay for a rex that is complete except missing an engine and is waterdamaged?
how much would an engine run approximately?

don't race, don't need to
car, no engine, in good conition, I'd pay $9000
Water damage, $5000
Used engine from somebody that was moderately blown up = $350 or less
Mazda reman = $2000 after core return
Race shop rebuild of reman = $750 - $1000
All the other stuff = bunches
Water damage, $5000

To just get a stock Mazda remanfactured motor is $2240 if you get it through Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda. Toll free # is 1-888-533-3400. To get it installed is $1533.80 from KD Rotary (http://www.kdrotary.com/price_list.html).
As far as how much the car is worth, that depends on how much "water damage" there is. Can you elaborate? is the interior wrecked? Is everything else but the motor usable (transmission, limited slip, wheels, axels, etc.)

1K is pretty good, although you will more than likely have to replace all of the relays, fuel pump, radio, speakers instruments, as well as other things that have been harmed by the water. For 4k more you will have a running car, give or take.

I paid $5k for an FD with clean title, sort of working engine, automatic transmission.
I am on target to reach at least $3800 of that price , possibly past $5000, parting it out which would leave about $1200, assuming the first.
$1000 definitlewy sounds good...actually awesome. I would have taken that deal myself since I have a wrecked FD with all the parts except a straight frame anyways.
By the way, the engine core is worth at least $800 itself.

don't forget about suspension bushings and such! I worked on a car that had been in a flood and it rode hard as hell..( Dealer told him it was race suspension) All the bushing bolts were rusted solid in place and needed to be replaced all-round..Very$$$. But for 1K you have alot of room to play with in that department, go for it and take your time. Simplify the engine bay on the first build!!! Good luck!
