93 r1 rebuild
I have always wanted to own a third generation rx7, ever since I could remember. In high school I couldn't afford one I bought Japanese car models I put together. Blah blah now some years later I wasn't looking hard, but a rather complete shell popped up in my area and I quickly swooped on it.
The car is in rough shape but I have the time. The car needs engine transmission and all the little goodies so this past weekend I drove down to California to check out a front clip. To my surprise it had just over 60k km and it ran quite nicely as well. He took off and sold the steering wheel seats and suspension which in my eyes are the goodies you get with buying a front clip. I ended up picking it up and it will be here by Wednesday.
A couple questions I have that I looked up and couldn't seem to find
Sine I have the usdm chasis harness, which plugs am I going to have to change so that the Japanese engine harness will plug right up?
Would it be easier to just go with an aftermarket ECM to simplify the harness?

Check to see what it looks like under the UIM for the solenoid rack. The later RX-7's had the solenoids all combined into a single unit often called the "black box". If you have all the solenoids in a row just like the standard US models, you won't have much of an issue aside from a few wires which will need to be re-pinned. However, I would just recommend starting off with a new emissions harness.
If you have the "black box", you'll be in for quite a bit of work:

An engine from 1993 with low miles means its been sitting for a very long time, I would almost guarantee the coolant seals are shot, or will be shot very shortly after you get it in a car and start driving it.
