93 FD Bucking and Hesitation.

Hey, I own an 87 T2 but my friend has a 93 fd. It has 130,000 miles, which I know is a bit much for an FD. Are the compression test numbers the same between fd's and fc's(PSI wise)? It has a slight bucking under acceleration. What could be the problem? Thanks.

Slight bucking could be ignition problem, TPS, or maybe dirty injectors.

If it happens only at 3k, around 0-3psi of boost, it's probably the 3k hesitation.

In either case, run a search here or check the faq / links page for more information.

The compression test numbers are probably the same, but I'm not certain. Refer to the FSM (www.iluvmyrx7.com) for specifics.

Is it bucking or is it hesitation? If it's happening at night when you have your lights on, it might be the 3k hesitation issue. That can be sometimes fixed with addition ground leads from the battery to the body of the car. Try driving during the day with the lights on and see if you experience the bucking/hesitation. If so, try adding more leads.

the car belongs to me. i realized the other day that it only bucks when the turbos are spooling. and, it seems only that it happens when they spool up quick such as at wot. could it possibly be that the significant change in atmosphere is to fast for the old sensors to detect and not giving it enough fuel right away?

What mods are on the car? Is the exhaust all stock? Does it have an aftermarket ECU?

I'm leaning towards TPS adjustment, then new plugs and plug wires (which usually need done anyway), and finally injectors.

I asked about the mods because fuel cut can feel the same way.

With 120k on the motor, it's given a good life. I would start shopping around for a new one, and when it's being replaced send the injectors off to Marren, Witchunter, or RC Engineering.

It's under the alphabetical links, as "TPS".
