93 fd ?

i looked at and drove a 93 fd yesterday and was wondering what to look for in this year of rx-7! i had an 94 auto and it was a good car but is there anything i should look at specifically with the 93 other than the dash peeling? its black with red int 5speed with no mods with 25k on it. he is asking 17 for it but i think i can get a little less. whould this be a good deal if the compression test comes out all right? by the way the stick is the only way to go in this car!

Depending on the model and options, a stock '93 FD market value is around $13,000 with 25,000 miles.

$13k for an FD that has 25k miles? That seems pretty low to me. I guess it all depends on where you live. Here in Arizona I have seen most FDs with 40-50k sell for between $16k and $19k.

If everything comes out all good, that is one heck of a deal. Here in Nj, someone would ask at least 18000 for the car.

$13000 for a stock fd with 25k original miles? This is impossible. If it's in excellent condition, someone might ask $20k for it.

What they are asking and what the "Blue Book" value is are two different things.

I looked it up and just did a normal touring setup and his zip code. The blue book value was a little over $13k.

Too bad you didn't say "blue book" instead of "market value"...right Mahjik?

Actually, it listed trade in value and some others, what I posted was a resell value.

I don't understand edmunds.com. All of there estimates are like $5k+ less than what the car will actually sell for. An FD with 70-80k miles is worth around $10k according to edmunds. Unless the car has a blown motor there is no way it will sell for that. I would really like to find out where they are getting there prices from. KBB seems to be pretty accurate though.

Mahjik,

You want to sell a 93 with 25K miles in god condition for $13k, I'll buy it!

I call on Edmonds. They said $8500 from a private party. I'd guess that car would sell for over $15k around here. My 94 with 40K was much more two years ago (I know, that was two years ago). The price on these has actually gone up in the last year. Remember there are less than 4000 register in the US, right? Must be about 50 of them here!

the market value is complete bullshit,
because it varies greatly depending on where you live,

around here a 25k 93 will fetch 20k easily.

getting it for 17 or less would be fine deal

Actually Tad, you can put in your location into Edmunds to calcuate a price as well. I used the guys zip code who orginally started the thread, he's in West Virginia if Elkview is really his home.

Everytime I've gone to purchase a car over the last 6 years, Edmunds has been pretty much right on target with dealers/resellers in my area. Actually, Edmunds was recommended to me by a dealer for checking out used auto prices.

Don't shoot the messenger here. I don't make up the prices for Edmunds, I'm only stating what's on their website.

I paid $7500 for a 93 montego touring with 81000 miles on it. The dealer said the turbos were bad and i could probably dump a couple of grand and have a really nice car. I got the car home and checked all the ignition parts and i had a bad leading coil pack. It cost me $160 and the car runs great. Sometimes its good to live near country boys.

kris...your a lucky guy. not even 8k for an FD is some ****. That market value is bullshit. No way is that car worth 13 grand. the 19 grand estimate seemed much more believable. If you can find a 93 FD with 25k miles on it for $13,000 let me know where it is cause ill buy it.

hey before i picked up my car, there was a montego blue 93 10,840 miles for around 13,000$. i didn't buy it because 1 it was an auto and 2 the guy never called back, i guess he changed his mind. here's my little story of how i got my car.. 10 Q mommy! hehe <------ spoiled brat.

March 1, 2001- Today I went to look at an rx-7. Wow that was a long wait. Well anyway, the one I looked at was a pretty sweet car. Montego Blue, 10,840 miles, touring edition, but automatic. It¡¦s one of the cleanest ones I¡¦ve seen yet, plus, it¡¦s the first rx-7 I¡¦ve ever driven. Wohoo! The guy is offering if for 13,500. My parents are going to take a look at it tomorrow.

March 2, 2001- My parents are willing to buy the car. OMG Can this be true. They said it was up to me... What do you think I said, Hell yeah!. So they are going to make an offer for 13,000. Wish me luck ļ

March 3, 2001- The guy agreed @ 13,000. he said he'll call back later with the details.

March 4, 2001- Went to the BMW dealership today and looked at another rx. It¡¦s red and pretty clean as well. 1 owner and 64,000 miles. Didn¡¦t get to look at the inside because it was a new arrival. The sales man said to come back latter in the week

March 6, 2001- Hmm... This blows. The guy didn¡¦t call back so I called him myself. He told me that it was already sold to someone else. What a considerate guy eh? O-well what can you do? **** and moan? ƒ¼

March 8, 2001- I went to take a look at the red rx-7 again. This time it was back from the detailing shop and ready to be seen. This one was a plain base model, 5 speed, with 64,419 miles on it. The interior was just as clean as blue one and the paint was fairly good too, except for little white marks on the hood. Well the dealership was willing to let it go for 12,500 or so. I told me parents about it and they said they would like to take a look at it first.

After getting the dealer run around and usual bullshit, I ended up buying the red one. I don't see any problems with it yet.

i personally don't like the black with red interior. yucky!
what everhappened to the barffing smiley?

i got my 2nd fd 3 years ago for 16,500 cash w/ 19k on body, 1,200 on motor. the guy was asking 20k for it. the previous potential buyer had the guy going round and round for 2 months asking him to have this and that checked (so the owner had all the paprwork) but the owner gave the guy a few days to make a decission on it. he called me and let me know, so i showed up at his house w/ a gangster wad. i got the car. i havent seen one around here these days for less than 16k....even w/ like 80k on it.
