93-95 Cruise Control Buttons on 99 and newer nardi wheel?

Just wondering if anyone has used their cruise control buttons (off a stock 93-95 steering wheel) on a newer stock Nardi wheel (99 and newer). I've been told that this is possible but I've searched and I can't find anyone who has done it. I'll be looking to change this old stock wheel out with my nice new 99 Nardi soon (Thanks again Ramy if you view this thread).
So I'm just searching for someone who has done this, before I even bother to attempt it. Thanks, Jerry

It is very possible to do. I swapped over the cruise pod from a '94 wheel to the nardi wheel - took about an hour or two. The only tricky part was cutting the plastic cruise pod to fit the nardi wheel (you basically cut off half of it, if I recall correctly), and then its mounted to the Nardi wheel by screws (just like it was originally). Mine came out looking like stock - I was probabaly lucky getting it to fit like it did though, I could have easily cut too muh of the pod.....I did the swap with the thought that the cruise pod might be destroyed...

Finally! Someone who took a pic!
I asked this on another thread but failed to get a response. I knew it wasn't going to be a direct bolt on piece. So you have to cut the pod a bit.
I'll seriously consider moving up to the 99 Nardi now that I know what it looks like. I can live with it. I don't use the cruise control too often. A nice feature to have on very long distances!

Lates,

hey i have been wondering the same thing, but going about it a different way. heres the deal, our 99 spec wheel (or different versions of it) have been used on the miata and i believe protege?? the protege has a cruise unit attached to the wheel, and ive always wondered if the connectors are the same. the shape sure is closer to what we need. even if the connectors arent the same i suspect they use a similar wiring configuration, so if you could get the female receptacle from a protege cruise harness i bet youd be in business if you soldered it in. same goes for the airbag harness... id like to get the propper electrical connector tor the chassis so its complete (instead of hacking off the connector for my 94 bag). what are your plans for the airbag? -heath

Well, I had a Protege and the wheel differed slightly from the 99 spec Nardi.
What I did notice is the Miata version is exactly the same as the 2000+ FD models. Even has the Nardi symbol at the bottom like the late edition models of the FD.

I specifically want the 99 spec wheel. If it's going to take too much work, I'll just leave the wheel alone.

Did the Miata and the 99+ JDM FD's not come with a cruise control option? What about an RX8 wheel that isn't two toned?

Yep, as you can see on the pic provided by RotorMotor, this style of wheel did have cruise control buttons. I don't see much of a difference between this wheel and the Nardi wheel on the 2000+ FD wheels.
It shouldn't be different on the 99spec Nardi wheel.

Trying to keep within the wheels and options available in OEM. The RX-8 wheel would fit, but the FD was never made with it...

The Protege wheel may LOOK the same, but you would not want it in your FD...it feels plasticky and cheap.

Brad7 is correct. If you want the cruise control to be completely flush and plug & play, you'll have to get those buttons for the 99 Nardi Wheel. What a hassle! lol

yes, although they are a bit unsightly and belong on a minivan haha. i think yours is smaller and further back, and looks better. either way, both ways would be acceptable options... i feel silly spending so much time on the nuances of the options for out cruise control buttons cause.... come on... how often will any of us actually USE the cruise control. mines going on my 20b project car, and im not sure how much time ill be going one speed on the highway for an extended period of time. personally i just HATE having unused functions, like blank switches etc. if something is supposed to go there i feel like i HAVE to have it there for some reason

Hey thanks for all the respones guys. poorboy- thanks for the pic, I was curious what it might look like. I still don't know if I want to go through the trouble for something I hardly use. But I'm knida like you RotorMotor in that I don't like having unused functions also.

So why can't the wheel be ordered with the cruise pod or the pod seperately? Does anyone know if that was not an option for 99-02 with a Nardi wheel?

This is a very good question. I find it kinda odd myself. I know the 99's had cruise control as an option. So they had to put it on the wheel. To this day I haven't seen a pic with the Nardi wheel with cruise control buttons.

I think that I might take approach RotorMotor, if they did make a cruise control unit for the 99 and newer FDs, I wonder if it's an easy splice for out US 93-95 models, either the protege unit or 99 stock FD. I'll probably give Ramy a shout and see what he has or could get. Thanks
