You will notice a difference. The lightweight flywheel will feel great when charging through the gears, and you will have better performance numbers. The downside is if you are just driving like a sane person you will see the RPM drop quickly between shifts(up and down). This may require some Rev matching on a downshift
The 14lb unit will feel more like stock. Upside is it feels more like stock(people who dont like change) the downside is it feels more like stock than the 9lb unit(less performance).

Switching to a 9lb or 9.5 lb flywheel is going to feel a lot different, dont let anyine tell you differently.
I am not saying it is a good thing or a bad thing but a personal preference!

I personally drive my daily driver 94 FD with a ACT Prolite Flywheel 93+ RX-7 9.5lb fylwheel
It takes a little getting used to but I love it!!

Besides Stock sucks right (Maybe not for an FD

wat you say is partially true. you will def notice a difference, but there are alot of companys now making flywheels that do the rev matching for you. it makes for smoother upshifting, and also a very noticable difference in downshifting.

Lighter flywheels are better for auto-X or track, they suck for drag racing. The engine will rev faster but will be slow to build rpm from a start. It's easier to stall with a lightened flywheel in everyday driving and this is where getting used to it comes into play.

Your gonna have to explain how a flywheel will rev match for me.

I think he got a little bit confused and was refering to the gearbox syncros

Ive being Heel/Toe and double clutching for a long time now, and i am installing an ACT prolite on my FD build. So it will be interesting to see how much 'differant' it will actually be. Either way im not worried.

The only way I could see a flywheel "rev matching" for you would be if it had some sort of sprung weight that would be released as you disengaged the clutch, effectively increasing it's rotational mass and giving it a little more umph to keep the engine spinning...

I have never seen anything like that though, and it doesn't sound terribly useful considering a lot of people buy lightened flywheels solely for the fact the revs fall/rise very quickly...

Thanks for the responses. I had a madatrix aluminun flywheel and liked it. I switched to ACT streetlight fly because the inserts for the M trix were on back order. Guess I should have went w/ the prolite fly from ACT. Oh well. Should have the car back together w/ the new stage 3 sprung 6 - puck. Its gonna be a new feel altogether. G

I have that same exact setup... I was stalling it left and right for a day or two after the clutch job but got used to it quick and after 200 miles or so it felt great. Very streetable.
