89 Rotors vs 93

hello, i was wondering if an 89 T2 rotor can be used in a 93 13brew, I pulled mine apart and one of the rotor faces was collapsed, I am trying to find a used rotor housing, the 89 housings are different Im pretty sure, but did not know if the rotors are compatable,

thanks,
JEsse

anyone with a good used housing for sale let me know.

They are not the same. The combustion surfaces on 93-95 rotors are machined differently and I believe the rotors are also lighter. There may also be differences between the coolant and oil passages.

I hope you can find a good used one as new ones are outrageously priced...

T2 rotors are lower compression

I was under the impression that the main difference between the kouki (89-91) turbo and the FD rotors was the weight, and they are the same compression ratio (9.0-1?). You cant mix and match rotors, and you have to have the counterweight to match the rotor set you are using. Is this correct? experts?

I'm pretty sure that the 89-91 TII rotors have the same compression.

I think the weight is the same also.

Where is everyone else getting there info from?

The 89'+ are the same weight and compression as the 93' 13BREW. I have interchanged them without any consequences. You can't mix and match the 87'-88' turbo ones. They are different weight and compression.

The combustion faces are slightly different between the 89'-91' and 13Brew

The 89-91 T2 and 93-95 rotors have different Mazda part numbers. The combustion recesses on the 93-95 rotors are fully machined, the combustion recesses on the 89-91 T2 rotors are left rough. The apex seal grooves on the 93-95 rotors are harder than the 89-91 rotors. I also believe they made the rotors lighter but I can't find evidence of that right now.

In any case, these are not big differences but there's no way I would risk using one T2 rotor and one FD rotor in an engine rebuild.

thanks everyone for the info, i am going to compare them soon, If i do use them I will be using both rotors from the 89 T2 motor, not one and one, i would not risk that either, If i can find a used housing, I am going to rebuild it, but if not i am going to get a reman from malloy, any bad experiences with them? Also on my housing it looks good except there is a grove in front of the exhaust port and a little groove by the trailing spark plug, i did not want to risk using that either. Why are the gasket kits so high? the seals dont seem that complicated, how could we get the prices down, to that of a 350 rebuild

thanks again,
Jesse
