8-5-3 boost pattern
Okay this is my problem. Im getting a 8-5-3 boost pattern. Before i bought the car, i had the turbos looked @ by a local rx-7 guy and he said they checked out okay. Recently i had a Mazduh tech look over the vaccuum lines and he said all were attached. I lose boost right before the transition and it keeps falling off until redline. Any thoughts on whats goin on? My original thoughts were it might be a faulty solenoid because the secondary turbo is not opening up and i dont hear the "whoosh" of either turbo after 4k.
plmk if youve got ne ideas about this.
Thanx,
Zach

I have an almost stock 93 RX-7. (intake, cat back)
I have a mazda reconditioned engine + new turbos with 3000mi on them. My car in 1st gear at full throtle shoots up to 14psi drops to 10psi till about 3500 to 4000 rpm then drops to 5psi till 5000rpm then drops to 3psi till redline. Does the same thing in 2nd, then in 3rd it shoots up to 14psi for a sec. then drops to 10psi and stays there. Same with 4th and 5th. I think you may have a small leek somwhere but that woosh sound goes away when the wastegate opens I find. This doesn;t mean your secondary in not working. My secondary doesn't come on in 1st or 2nd. I have the blow off valves just open to the air so I can hear them and the secondary makes a different sound than the primary. The only time I ever hear the secondary is when shifting from 3rd to 4th and to 5th. Now this could mean there is somthing wrong with both of our cars or that the stock ECU has some kind of govening over 1st and 2nd to stop you from taking off too fast. I'm not sure since I'm no expert but I thought I'd share my experience.

I had a similar problem as you did when I 1st got my fd a few years ago. 10-5-4 was what I was getting. When I did the 40-70mph test in third to watch my boost pattern, that's what I got..however if I was in 3rd at 5k and then floored it, I got full boost till red-line.
Odd I thought I had a transition problem. After further investigation, it turned out that the coupler after my "Y" pipe was loose. After tightening the clamps, I got my stock 10-8-10 pattern back.
I guess what happened was the extra air flow from the secondary was blowing the coupler loose creating the boost leak. The primary turbo didn't have enough pressure/air velocity to cause the leak, only the combined air volume from both turbos is what cause mine. Double check your couplings. Hope that helps.
