Hi guys, I was just wanting to get your thoughts on this question: Will the FD lose some of its value now that there is a new model coming out?? Please share your thoughts.....

i wouldnt think so. the new 8 is a completely different car, eventhough it continues with a new rotary engine its much more of a family car rather than a rugged race car. if the 7 wasnt very appealing visually then i would say yes but its sleek lines can compete with many of the newest and hottest cars out so i think itll hang on to its title as best sports car and hold its price

Makes no difference to me, 'cause I'm not selling mine. If anything, I hope they DO go down in value, so I can buy more! One as a pure track car, one as a show car, another to drive on Monday.....

hey thats what i'm screaming, i want to buy as many rx7's as i can. i'm just awaiting the day the rx8's come out. i'm hopin and praying they sell well so we can see an rx7 revival here in america, that would just make my life so much happier. they probably will depreciate though, that is if the rx8 just sells like hotcakes.

If it was targeted as a family car, it would have a piston engine. It's in an entire different class and aimed at Euro sport sedans. Rotary engine or not, I don't see it detracting from the FD's value unless(until?) a new RX-7 is introduced.

They might depreciate a lot. Have any of you guys knowticed the prices of the 300zxs. Near me, a '90 with 100k miles on it went for ten grand two summers ago. Thats not just one...that was the best deal you could find. Even last year they were sky high. Now I see them for like 4 grand. I don't know if people just realized that its a 12 year old car or is it because the new z is right around the corner? Honestly I don't want the prices to go down...I spent a lot of money on my car and I want people to know it.
I'd also just like to ask if anyone else knowticed the prices of supra tts? My friend was looking for one last winter and it seems like the prices have gone up about 3 grand or so. There used to be a few around, under 20k...we even found a decent one for 16. Now there's almost none under 20.

If the RX-8 sucks, then it might make the value of the 7 go up. But Im with dclin and 7sweetie, I want a second seven for modding cuz I just don't wanna mess with the car my father gave me. Every bolt in that car now has sentimental value and swapping it out wouldn't seem right... except the ******* spoiler! But now that I think about it, the spoiler should stay, too. It looks like a biplane is having **** with my car!

The value of our cars will go UP. The new RX-8 will cap off new interest in the rotary, and the value of our RX-7's will rise with that interest because I believe the demand for rotary powered cars will rise. Look at how many Corvettes have been produced, the value of corvettes is solid for nice exsamples.

IMO the introduction of a new car in the same line would help to maintain or even raise the value of the "classics" in the same line. Fresh publicity for the engine and the lineage of the new car(s) will rekindle interest in the older cars.

How could you compare 300ZX to FDs?

Owning a FD sorta brings what I think is a prestigious feeling along with it. It's fun as hell to drive, work on(sometimes), and mod but along with that comes the looks you get from people at a signal light, getting out of it at a parking lot, car show or just while driving it. How can a price of a car like this ever go down very much. If you're an FD owner and you think the price probably will go down you need to go outside and look at that car in your driveway. Still feel the same?? Didn't think so.

Lets not forget about the styling. The 8 looks cool, but it doesnt look like a race car. All the rotor heads will begin to realize this and think back at the FD.

I wouldn't fear the value of our cars dropping. And it has nothing to do with the 8. I take comfort that there were never many FDs in the first place, the ones out there are slowly diminishing due to fires and wrecks and whatever, but there's still plenty of people that like & want them (just take a look at success of this forum!). Demand seems to outweigh the supply, and I wouldn't forsee this changing anytime soon.

But I could be wrong, in which case I'll be adding another to the stable like everyone else!
