Maybe one of the bolts for the tool that keeps the flywheel from turning?

Are you talking about a bolt hole that's facing straight up on the top of the rim of the bellhousing? Haven't been that deep on my FD yet, but on the FC turbo there's a bolt hole for a 10mm head bolt to attach a ground strap to the tranny.

Yea it's pointing straight up. It's a small hole - 6mm ( 10mm wrench fits it ). I could buy the ground strap. Still wondering....

It's right at the top, pass side of the tranny bellhousing.

Yep, saw it today working on a friend's FD. On the FC, there's a ground strap that goes to that hole. They may have just left the hole in the casting or something, or it's for some other feature that the US spec cars don't have.
