1. Quite a few topics on this.
2. There is one out there but it's INCREDIBLY expensive.
3. Why do you want one? Because 6 is 1 better than 5?

ok, since someone else brought it up AGAIN... i'm gonna be a dick and ask, i realize its expensive as f*ck and the benefits are probably well below cost, especially for my daily driven FD, but what adcantage is there to the GReddy 6 speed setup? is it like running the 4.33 final, but with the extra gear to get you back up and equalto the top speed of 5th gear on a stocker ?

People like to say they have 6 gears

I don't know the gear ratio's of the Trust unit, but a lot of the aftermarket 6 speed boxes from Japan-land out there have shorter gears, for more technical courses where rev's need to be kept up in a turn. Race style gearing isn't needed for a street car. This is just from what I have observed, as I have no first hand experience with an aftermarket 6 speed unit.

Semis have ~20 gears (give or take a few gears). That's 4x the amount in normal cars. They also have turbos as big as my head. I heard those are pimp.

From the 'FAQ for 3rd Gen' located at https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/

21) Is a 6 speed transmission an option?

6 speed transmissions are becoming popular with some new cars to improve highway fuel economy. RX-8 6-speed transmission will not bolt up and is weaker than stock. Because of the cost, limited advantages, and the durability of the stock gearbox, 6-speed upgrades remain uncommon. Differential final drive ratio and lower-ratio 5th gear are popular transmission mods.

That said, the 6 speed upgrade options come in various configurations from HKS, Trust/GREX, G-Force, Guru, Quaife, Borg-Warner, and Hewland. Most use straight-cut gears (noisy) and dog-box engagement, and require frequent servicing. All run between $5k-15k.

Just for the parts, correct? Some assembly required.

jimlab--haha yep..

HKS and I believe Trust too have Cross-missions/dogmissions but still standard H and those come as a full tranny, not a parts kit.

Did someone on this forum say that the Greddy kit was a Gemini gear set? Somehow I recall that being mentioned. If so, maybe it would be possible to somehow purchase a variant of it directly from Gemini in the UK?

Read the 3rd gen. FAQ. If you can't find it, read the first page of this thread where scotty305 actually posted a link to the FAQ and the section on 6-speeds from the FAQ...

because its weaker than the stock 3rd gen tranny, its not a direct bolt on for the 13B-REW, and it has terrible gear ratios for the power curves that the engine puts out.

there is a clutch needed to get it into gear, you don't have to use the clutch to swap gears, but you wear out your tranny fast. it has straght cut gears.

the only person on the forum that i've heard of that is going to get a 6 speed box, and i'm pretty sure that it's a dog box, is RedRX-7. message him about it
