Thumbs up 6-Speed MiataTranny Conversion

Has anyone tried this conversion in an FD? If so, just how hard is it?

I read some where about using parts from a miata as an upgrade, but I can't remember where.

Why get it from a Miata and just not buy the Parts for an FD?

why? Why get a Miata tranny?????? Get a GT-R tranny, or HKS 6 speed. I doubt Miata tranny can take 300+hp

this is what people usually do. They swap in a GT-R tranny, or get an aftermarket HKS 6 speed. HKS is about 8k. It's not cheap.

anyway, no matter how cheap. It's no point in swap in a tranny that can't take the power.

Yeah it would suck to get done doing lots of fabrication work and lots of $$ being spent on getting a miata tranny to fit finding out..

a.) It can't handle much power

b.) you would have saved time/money/stress if you would have went the hks root.

I actually went thru my list of shops and found that Pineapple Racing will swap the 5 speed miata gears. I'm not sure what this is supposed to do. I just like the 6-speed idea, especially since I need to do some tranny work.

I don't know bout HKS but Greddy makes 6 speed for FDs, they are not cheap about 7~8k, you won't be able to find that on their English site but you can look at that in their Japanese site. I am considering getting the Greddy 6 speed after racing my friends S2K I just fell in love with the 6 speed transmission and have to get one for my FD.

Well, in terms of Transmissions -

theres a place in Australia that makes a 6-spd dog box in AU

also, HKS + Greddy also make 6 spds, although the Greddy one is actually a re-marked Quaife from what I understand.

either way, the cheapest one is the one from AU at 5k

Yea, miata engines entirely arnt meant to take speed, pressure, and boost like the rx7 in my own terms. If your out there to own the road, dont convert with a miata.

besides giving you an extra gear what will the six speed tranny do for you. to me its annoying, my dad has an awd a4 with 6 gears and sometimes i forget there is a 6th gear and stay in 5th. wouldn't a short shifter shorten the throw (best reason i see for swapping to 6 gears.)
