it would throw off the weight balance of the car and maybe that difference could be off-set by installing a rear mount T-56, like in the C5's. It would be alot of work, but not that much more compared to an engine swap. Just an idea.
This has been discussed many times before.

LS1 = 390 lbs, no accessories (Source: Sallee Chevrolet

20B = 561 lbs (Source: jimlab's crate 20B)

The exact weight of a 13B-REW without accessories is unbeknownst to me. I remember reading someone on here weighed it out to 420 lbs....but I can't remember if it was with or without accessories.

Anyhoo....Brian Hinson's LS1 FD weighs like 50lbs LESS than a stock RX7. He had it corner balanced. A properly done LS1 conversion will not 'throw the weight balance out the door'. This is a very, very, very common misconception.

Hey twint78, could you do me a favor buddy? Complete sentences with actual words makes things alot easier for your audience to understand. Try it out sometime.

Since the only people putting 6-speeds in FDs are those with V8 conversions, there's not very much to discuss, is there?

Oh, and TwinT78? You might want to scale back on the list of what you're planning to do. Beside the fact that signatures are supposed to be limited to 10 lines, the only thing you left out of your laundry list of "gonna dos" was buying the state of Texas. DO first, TALK later, unless you've got a track record of backing up what you talk about with action. For the record, you don't.

Blah blah blah blah...

Are you trying to say OBDII??? Well vosko has a little thing called a standalone, maybe you should look into it. Save the rotary bashing for the F body forums.

I'm actually looking into it. But not the V-8 swap. Just the 6 speed. I dont have 50 grand extra to "Do it right" like yourself.

Wait a minute, I thought that you said you could care less about what I say and all you hear is blah blah blah...

Yeah, I saw your thread on putting a 13B-RE or REW in...
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=194200

I also saw your (latest) thread on putting a 20B in...
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=194076

And I saw your thread on putting a Buick GN engine in...
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=192119

So which is it this week?

You're right, a lot of people do list mods they're going to do. A lot of people are also completely full of ****. As far as I can tell, there seems to be a lot of overlap in those two groups of people...

umm jim.check your dates. my 2 rotor project is my latest thread. the 20b is just getting brought back.because i was asking how everyone afforded theirs and i was thinkin of approaching this area.but im not even worried about an engine right now, until im completely decided.the fight i have going right now is what do i want to use the car for.weekend driver and curves, drop and push back the motor.or gobs of power and straight line power.as we all know a 20b turbo is heavy as hell.im pretty dead set on a 2 rotor but you never know.but i know it will be a rotary.

also another thing i would be running into between 20b and 13b is little things like;find the right gearing, transmission,a flywheel, clutch and balance assembly or go with something already premade.

you are right on i havent made myself to clear on engine choice.but i also start threads on what i should go with.get ideas.i do not want to keep switching out engines all the time.this is why when i rebuild the car.it will be built to support a 20b just in case.the standalone i will be using, fuel lines, an additional fuel pump, a stronger rear end, an outragously sized radiator.

i just do not know know enough on the 20b as far as what do i have to do to balance everything, what kind of front cover and oil metering pump i need to go with.i guess those are things i have to source out.on the 2 rotor thread i should have put "returning back to the rotary instead of 2rotor".that was my mistake.

So NOBODY has a 6 speed tranny from an Rx8 in their FD powered (or even FC) Rx7 eh ? Well I am in the works of putting in my newly acquired FD engine I drove to Hawkinsville, GA to pick up, in my one and only STARXQUEST project.. Check my progress in my web album but I will prolly re post a word or two on how it works out, my only concern at the moment is the clutch slave cylinder from the 6 speed rubbing on the oil filter of the FD.. If I got the Renesis engine, 6 speed tranny, carbon fiber driveshaft and LSD all from the Rx8 to fit in my StarQuest, I do not see any problems with using a 6 speed wit an FD, all I have heard is hear say on how they won't hold up the power and torque from the FD, that's questionable but will soon be put to the test-ies...

why would you wanna do a 6speed rx8 swap? its not the number of gears that make the difference AND the rx8 transmission is MUCH weaker than the rx7's, and YES it has been tried

So at the end of the day... WHAT FOR?

Well my STARX8 PROJECT started off that way, so I'm not just going into this swap from your average Rx7.. That is the current setup in my ride and I dig the 6 speed. If I ever brake the tranny ya'll will hear about it mmk.. Here's another factor from my setup to tickle your twinkies: The FD engine was designed to work with the lower gears from it's 5 speed and LSD, now the Rx8 has higher gears in it's tranny and LSD so I am eager to see how the FD will like these numbers to come off the line quicker.. Oh I have 15" rims as well so the numbers go even higher.

so why do the fd engine swap if you dont wanna go high in power?

I do want a high powered engine, I'm getting all the power goodies soon enough, I'll settle for 500 hp but let's not derive from the subject too much.. So if the 6 speed does not hold up and it does brake, then another course of action will be taken but I do love the smooth shifts from the 6 speed and it never gave me any problems launching at high RPM's in my STARX8, I use a Fidanza as well.

Has anyone ever had a 6 speed Rx8 tranny actually brake on an FD engine before ? Even on any turbo rotary? Or is that just a speculation theory based on it being"not as strong as the 5 speed" The 6 speed was meant for higher rev's as well.. I got faith in it.
