500 bhp on stock twins?????

Well, I drove my buddy to a local shop to pick up his G35.
The mechanic saw my car (rx8) and told me he did some racing and he owned a 93 FD touring. I was like cool, what have you done to it?
He said nothing was done to the motor as it was a restriction in the racing event, bearing was changed on the stock twins, intercooler upgrade, two additional secondaries instead of upgrading to bigger one ( additional secondaries necessary? as opposed to switching the existing ones to bigger ones? )
And that's about it.
He claims he made 500 bhp on stock twins.
I was like 'no way...'
I smelled a serious bs on this one.
Anyone else?

425rwhp might not be out of the question for some upgraded twins.

but on stock ports??? I dunno, doesn't seem right. RPMS might not have been there or enough exhaust flow.

BHP=Brake Horsepower. Measurement of engine power at the flywheel using a brake-dyno. This is how most auto manufacturers measure engine output.

No way, no how, not even with "upgraded twins". Was this "dont-be-a-rikki"?

he also mentioned the car was backfiring like crazy and he said it like he was proud of it doing it like it was a good thing...
He was running pig rich on stock port with bearing changed stock twins and made 500bhp?? somebody please tell me this isn't possible.

Wow, that guy's an idiot. People have a hard time breaking 500 hp with singles and high boost. 500 is in the 22++ psi range for many of the singles. I've never heard of or seen any form of the stock twins that are effecient in that range. I've seen a race car that ran 20 psi with the stock twins and race fuel, and that was about 440 hp.

he's talking BHP, not rwhp...your example is ~517BHP, so by your logic you are an idiot.

I'm not defending the guy by any means, I've already stated I don't think it's impossible on the stock ports.

You could get close on stock engine ports but not with a stock turbo setup. I did a lot of porting to my turbo manifolds and had upgraded compressor wheels and trimmed exhaust wheels running non sequential etc. to run 125mph in the 1/4 mile way back when. The car was lighter, around 2650lbs or so at the time with me at about 180lbs.

You're right, it may be possible with running race fuel and advancing the timing/leaning the motor out. I wouldn't expect much longevity from either the turbos or engine in that state...

Did he mention that it was a jdm engine?
i heard that it would make a few diffs due to that fact.

Yes.
From what I've read here and elsewhere, I'd say your smeller is working just fine. Ask him if he's got a dyno sheet.

I just recently had a similar conversation with some guy at a local car show who claimed he made 450 RWHP with stock twins and "just a few bolt-ons". Of course this was on an FD he used to own. Rrrriiiigt.

I thought all FD's came with JDM motors?

So I really have a USDM motor in my car??? No wonder I can't make 500 hp.

This must be true cause everyone knows the cars in Japan are far superior to any that are exported.

They keep all the good stuff for themselfs...............

that's my dyno sheet......my twins have a lot more done to them than simply a bearing change. completely new CHRAs, and I have an aggressive streetport, and lots of little things to help power----deleted double throttle, deleted coolant thru tb, deleted a/c and p/s among other things.

No way in hell this yahoo made 500 at the motor on stock ports, at least not for much longer than one dyno pull. that guy is talking out his ***.

dubulup, are you just joking with tyler or do you have a beef with him
