CF hoods as replacements for steel hoods does save weight. But the difference between a CF hood and an aluminum hood is very small (and some CF hoods are heavier than the stock aluminum hood) so that it isn't a very good weight reduction mod for the FD.
I don't know the weights for all the aftermarket hoods available, but all the ones I have seen the weights for are very close to the stock aluminum hood, and some were even heavier.
