400hp Application

Hello!
i currently have a 92 FD with Original engine with 124 000km on it and its still working good on me.
now im wondering if something ***** up and i have to rebuild the engine, im going to be using the stock mazda apex seals, ive been reading everywhere and people doing 800hp with stock seals so i guess 400hp is not too much for them. the car is going to be for street use, no racing.

so now i was wondering, what would i need to reach 400hp?
what i already have in mind is a new Fuel pump (walbro 255lph)
a Better cooling (intercooler + piping)
i also have a brand new set of twin turbos with no shaft play

what else am i going to need to reach 400hp safely? (turning up the boost)

Im no expert but im pretty sure you need a single turbo setup, aftermarket ecu, streetport, injectors etc...

Also a lot of research !!

why a single turbo? the twins wont work?
and about the ecu , why would i need to change it , if i get a boost controller it wont do the job?
streetport, is it mandatory?
injectors, good point i had forgotten those!

The stock ecu won't allow for the needed gas, an aftermarket ecu is a must. The stock turbos put to non sequential can do the job, but easier for a single or BNR twins. The injectors won't flow enough when reaching the 300+ hp, so they need to be upgraded.

don't know if its 100% necessary but would make it easier to reach the goal.

Yeah, the OP def needs to read up on the forum (Archives/FAQ) before trying to jump into something like this.

Snake, you need to realize that a 350whp car with sequential twins is already a LOT more power and performance than 90% of the cars on the road can hope to bring.

If you're set on 400whp than you will need a Single Turbo, or you're going to need to pour a LOT of money into all aspects of the sequential support system.

I agree that the claims of getting "More Power" from running non-sequential are just that, claims. Non-sequential sacrifices response for simplicity, that's about it imo. If you're going to do that than you might as well do it right, and go single.

Either way, your goal shouldn't be to hit a certain power number as quickly and cheaply as possible. If you try to do that then you WILL get bitten in the *** for it! Do some research, educate yourself, go slow, enjoy the car and learn to drive it at each new power level before moving on.

1st healthy engine.
850 primary injectors
1300 secondary injectors
Power FC
Water injection
supra fuel pump + rewire
non sequential twins
and a few other mods, plus a good tuner.

I would suggest you look up threads from guys like (GoodfellaFD3S) (theorie) (tom94RX-7) they provide plenty of info on what your are trying to accomplish..

Water injection is a must for reliability at that power level in my opinion. We are going on 7 years without blowing a motor and are firm believers in it. Stock ecu can't handle the mods isn't really tunable. You need a power fc. A boost controler only sets the boost level. It does nothing for fuel and timing. Stock twins are a waste of time to try to make that power. Get a properly sized single such as a 35r, 3574, etc, power fc, fuel system with supra pump, aftermarket fuel rail and injectors, regulator, a large stock mount or front mount intercooler, midpipe, catback, and lots of tuning. You will probably need ignition upgrades such as an hks twin power as well.

I do not recommend 1300cc injectors. I just had another set fail. 1300s are enlarged stock 850s. They have tendancy to stick. We use either bosch 1680s or injector dynamics with aftermarket fuel rails. I am actually working on a fuel system right now I'll disclose soon.

OEM apex seals will certainly hold up to higher horsepower levels but they are NOT ideal for it.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu sounds like alot of money but idgaf,

yeah ima have to go with a single turbo then i think its better, about the apex seals, witch ones are the best? ive read shitload of threads and some people say oem are the best then some people say atkins then some people say ianetti ceramic seals then some say NCR some thing like that, i dont care about the money i want them to last long, able to take boost and thats pretty much it.

about the aftermarket ecu, cant i just chip the one i got and set it to 14psi boost with more fuel/air ratio? theres a guy where i live hes selling one chipped set to 12psi with adjusted fuel air ratio.

and whats the smallest turbo that can handle 400hp without too much stress, not 400 WHP, whp would be around 350. im not looking to go 300kmh like a crazy wangan racer i already got caught at 180 by the babylon.

For your goals Power FC or other kind of stand alone ECU is the only way to go. A stock/chipped ECU will not allow you to upgrade fuel injectors.

If you get your motor ported then just get a GT35R and you be making your hp goal.

If you're just looking for around 350 to the wheels than you should still be able to do that with twins, sequential twins no less!

As others have said, you'd want an aftermarket ECU (PFC is pretty common and easy to use, lots of people know it's in's and out's), uprated twins (BNR Stage 3's), Water/meth injection, colder plugs, ignition (HKS Twin Power), uprated fuel system (aftermarket/rewired pump, FPR, injectors), an upgraded radiator and intercooler, etc. And that's just dealing with things under the hood.

You'll also want to pay attention to other areas on your car like your brakes, bushings, mounts, etc. (which you'll want to do anyway!)

Definitely take some time to read through the FAQ's and do some searches on here. There is a TON of information here that you can use to your advantage

Its not that stock seals are not ideal, they offer no cushion should something go wrong and you get a good knock. The tradeoff with aftermarket seals is strength for more wear on other parts of the motor. Read, research, and take your time. Listen to what those who have been in the game a long time have to say so you don't make the same errors.

This is my planned setup Apexi Power FC. BNR Stage 3 or 99 spec Turbos, 14-15psi, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, full intake & exhaust, upgraded intercooler, water injection. make it easier on yourself and be safe. I'm looking at at least 350whp and I'm good. Anything more like a single turbo, I'm getting a 3 rotor and throwin it in another FD chassis.
