4.33 gears anyone?

Does anyone have 4.33 gears in their FD? Do they help for 1/4 mile times that much? I know the FD is not a drag racing car but that is what I am into and I am considering them for my car if they make any difference at all. I know my top end will suffer but if I can gain a few tenths then I may try them out. If anyone knows of a link to someone's sight who uses them, that would be great, ummkaaayy.

There's quite a few people running around with them. I'm sure someone will chime in. Just go all out and get the 4.777 gears.

I would like to hear some comments from people that own them before I go out and buy any. What kind of prices do you have anyways?

I have them and they did not change my et.
They did give me 1-2 mph at the top end because you shift into 4th a little quicker.
To do over again(gears 450+labor)I would have spent the money on a carrier unit or upgraded
axles...

I have been running them for about a year. Not a big increase, helped getting out of the corners a little. Biggest problem is it makes the speedo incorrect. It will have to be readjusted.

Nothing here is making me want them anymore. Is there any real posotives to having the 4.33 gears? I am trying to improve my cars 1/4 mile times but I can't afford to go Single yet. I am just trying to figure out which mod to do next. I am getting the Radiator first then I am debating on larger secondaries to turn the boost up a bit for racing or switching out the rear end some, with either 4.33 gears, KAAZ differential, Toe links and Trailing arms, chromoly axles, etc.. After I feel content with the power for a while then I want to upgrade the body some but power first. I am ordering a Clutch and Flywheel later this year as well but not yet. What does anyone here recomend as the most worthy mod that I should do next. What about the engine torque braces or new motor mounts?

If you're looking to improve your quarter mile times, why are you changing your flywheel?

I want the flywheel for added revs. I am not going for a aluminum one that weighs 8.5lbs or anything. I am just going with a lighter steel flywheel just for a slight increase in revs for typical driving and I would like to try my car out in Road Racing. I want a fast 1/4 mile car but not a drag car. More of an all around race car. I will have too much power for Autocross but drag racing, road racing, street racing, and stuff. This post is pretty much just about my 1/4 mile times. I know what you mean about the lightweight flywheel, everyone keeps asking me why. I think I'll change my sig. so that it says steel flywheel. Like a 17.5lb one.

you will not need upgraded axles untill you are well above the 400 RWHP mark, and are doing really hard launches on slicks.

That was just a thought. I heard of alot of drag cars snapping their axles and this is my daily driver so I don't want that to ever happen to me at a street race. I will probably not spend the $800 for a set of axles yet anways.

There was another thread last month asking the same

But this time it doesn't sound as positive. I figured i'd take advantage and do it at the same time as mine synchro. If I procrastinate long enough, my question will be will the RX-8 6-speed Trans' fit and how much.

I learned how to drive with a bad 5th synchro:
After 4th gear, slap shift lever to left neutral and then it will go in to 5th without a grind.

True drag cars are a pain in the *** for a daily driver, you can't have both dog.... My buddy has a GTR R32 with 1100HP and he cant keep it running if he drives it on the street.....

My advice is a clutch and a single turbo TO4 E,S,or R

GO RACER, for the price and worries to get that transmission you can spend a $1000 or close to that and just turn yours into a 6spd with HKS or OS

I run 275 40 17 tires in teh rear and I think for me because the wheel tire is a bit larger the gears correct things making it like a stock gear again.

You are not going to worry about breaking axles unless you have major traction when launching at the strip. If you decide to get the 4.33 gears and are **** about the speedometer correction, you can also order a speed sensor from a RZ fd from Japan . Damn I wish I lived in Japan, $1000 for hks or OS 6spd, actually Canman6969 hook us up here with that price. IT will still be dirt cheap even after shipping!

I had 4.777 in the rear and loved them on the street. Made my 5th gear pull just about has well has 4th used to. No downshifting to pass, it was nice. Makes first gear very very short, you blink and you’re at the red line. When I bought them they where advertising .3-.5 seconds off the 1.4 mile. Seems a little optimist.

About 2 years ago I Ran a 13.1 with intake, downpipe, exhaust, PFS @12psi with a sh!ty driver(me) Then I totaled it. Haven't driven it on the street since the rebuild.

Too much power for auto-x?!?! Is there such a thing? If anything, having the 4.33 or 4.777 gears will help you in auto-x. That's the one complaint that I have about my FD when auto-x'ing ... no power down low. It would be much easier as a driver to have to do less heel-toe and rev matching to carry more speed out of the corners. It's usually where I lose most of my time against the bigger competitors (friggin' Z06's).

Although, this brings up an interesting point. How fast is 2nd gear with the 4.33's? If 2nd is too fast, then I probably shouldn't bother thinking about the 4.33 gears either.

I used to run 3.73's and the car was an absolute pig. I switched to FMS 4.30 gears and the car is an animal now

I think you missed a zero.

If not, there are many people here who are interested.
