3rd gen VS TII????? I'M TORN!!

Well, I'm posting this in both the FC and FD sections to try and get both sides. I know a guy with a really sweet TII for sale.

88, New black paint, the body is perfect,, 108k on body, new streetported motor, new modified stock turbo, FMIC, SDS programable EFI, 3' racingbeat exhaust, intake. $6k

I think with these mods it would be close to a stock FD.

I just got a new job making more money and was thinking about a 3rd gen. I know enough about FD's to say that buying one is the cheap part. But I want one so bad, I think they are beautiful cars and have wanted one for awhile(way before that stupid movie). I know they arn't very practical, especially in West Virginia. I don't think I would drive a TII or FD in the winter so I guess that doesn't matter. I'm not rich.

Your advice please.

I had an 89 RX-7 for a few years and I sold it to buy a 3rd gen RX-7. The 3rd gen completely blows away the 2nd gen in every type of category. These two cars don't even feel like they came from the same company. The 3rd gen is expensive, if you really don't have money go with the 2nd gen. However, if I happen to be in your place, I would definitely start looking for a 3rd gen.

It isn't really that hard to make a TII faster than a stock FD, in a straight line. I've got both sitting in my driveway right now, TII runs 13.4's, the FD run 13.59 best. The TII is lightened though but the FD will KICK IT'S *** auto-xing. I've auto-xed both and there is really no comparison.

The FD has so many things that are better it is hard to compare the two performance wise. The TII is cheaper to buy and maintain and has a lot more interior room.

I'm driving a 90 TII right now till I find another FD and I'd like to say that you can't compare the two.

Yes- you can make a TII faster than a stock FD but the key word is MAKE! You can make a civic faster than a stock FD too....so uh you decide.

exactly. you can make anything faster that any car...all it takes is money.

FCs should NOT be compared to FDs, because there is no comparison.

You just got a new job and you are immediately looking to go broke?

If you already have a car, my advise would be to start your job and save some money. If you just HAVE to get a car right away, get the TII.

Ok, let me guess -- the FC guys told you to get an FC, and the FD guys told you to get an FD. Wow, that's helpful. And knowing is half the battle.

Yes you can make a FC fast in a straight line. Eventually going fast in a straight line gets old and you get the urge to take some corners. Sooner or later you will want to cross over to the FD side.

From what you say of your circumstances, I'd suggest you buy a TII for now, and see how the future pans out... An FD will probably be a little too much of a commitment I'd guess..

Cheers,
Dave

I have decided to get the TII. I truelly love FD's, but like I said I am not rich. And if I would have problems beyond my scope, it would be along way to a proffesional shop. Maybe in a few years I will change my mind. In the mean time, I envy you FD owners. Thanks guys

I personally like TII's, but have never drove one. The FC sounds pretty good.

FC's are cool.. I loved mine, just too bad I wrecked it while taking it to get it inspected (wasn't that a b*tch).

They were very light and agile for their time.

When the new body RX-7's and 300zx's hit the market, the FC's just sort of dropped off...

I've owned 4 turbo II FCs, and i now own a very highly modded FD. i can tell you that every time i get into my FD i reminise about my old turbo IIs. i'm looking for a nice 91 white turbo II now. i'll never sell the FD, but there is something about the turbo II's character that the FD is missing. nicely modded FCs are not far behind FDs in looks either IMO.

Ive been on both of sides of the fence and I can say without a doubt I will never be in an FC again. There truly is no comparison and you will always be stuck in what I call "FC syndrome". It means no matter how much effort or money is put into the FC, to everyone else its just an old model not worthy of the time/effort. Even if its a nice example of what the FC could be. No matter what anyone says I guarantee the guy giving you a compliment is thinking "if he could afford to dump this much money into a FC why didn't he just get an FD to begin with."

Supernaut, you aren't kidding! In retrospect, I was in no way ready for an FD.

I was doing the infamous "browsing own threads" and saw one of my first posts in the FD section....lol

The crazy thing is, it took me this long to get an FD. I've owned my car only a year last August. I took no time time making it what I wanted with full suspension & single turbo projects complete though.

I was just telling a friend the other day that in 17 months I've put less than 3k miles on it. Lots of jack stand time...lol
