In your opinion, does the 3rd gen rx7 make a decent daily driver? The reason I ask is that I had to sell my other car because of my financial situation. Now, I can keep the 7 and daily drive it or sell it and get something that can handle the rigors of daily driving. so what do you think?

 

If the car isnt heavily modified then yes.

 

if u do reliability upgrades it will help out.

 

Well I just posted my compression numbers in another thread, and I daily drive mine. I am 19 and have driven it daily since I got it, a little over a year. Depends how much money you can spend on gas. Gas kills me. I am lucky to get 15mpg, and then you fill it up and its right around $55-60. Car has given me no real issues, just the alternator right after I got it. I also have absolutely no mods, not even exhaust. Hope this helps.

Not really and not very. Fuel costs are high due to low gas mileage and the requirement of premium grade gasoline (91+ (PON) octane in the US, or 95 RON). The interior doesn't fit much cargo and is limited to one passenger. The low stance can cause other cars to not see you, and you won’t easily see around them. They are a poor choice for driving in bad weather. Most forum regulars either use a daily driver car or have some alternate transportation in case the FD needs work. I daily drove mine for 4 months, but only had 15 miles or less to travel round trip to school and work and back home. It's a car like anything else, i don't see why you couldn't drive it everyday.

 

why daily drive your FD, at least where I live you can get a beater with decent reliability, twice the gas mileage of an fd for 1500 dollars that seats 4 and takes 87 octane gas.

 

It will be in the shop, and leave you stranded. Don'y know how long you've had your ride,but It will have issues and you'll have to drive it,cause you need a car. I drive my car hard, so if you baby it, it could last awhile,but it will have some type of turbo problem, it won't be as fast,it will drive you crazy and broke.

 

I know of quite a few fd owners that drive theirs daily to work, but they all have reliability mods on theirs....

 

I daily drive mine and I hate doing it. The suspension is rock hard, there are no cup holders, clutch is a bitch(aftermarket), and my exhaust is loud. Oh and I reak like gas when I get out.

On the other hand, it turns heads all day, chicks dig it, and there are only a handful of cars that can keep up.

You absolutely can drive it daily... Is it a really good idea? No... Try and pick up some beater car to drive daily as suggested above. And the quote from the FAQ is the best advice as to why it is not really a good idea.

 

It's at least 12 years old, with expensive parts and constant maintenance. It's small, holds only two passengers and little to no cargo, gets terrible mileage and requires premium fuel. It rides relatively rough and tends to be noisey and can be hard to see by other drivers. It also has no protection from parking lot dings, so you tend to walk from the farthest reaches of every lot, no matter what the weather or temperature and it absolutely sucks on slick roads. Other than that, it's great.

thank god i'm getting a beater when I ship off to college this summer. I wouldn't recommend it as a DD. I would get something more new maybe an rx-8 if you do it because you like rotaries

 

Its not really a questions of could it be a DD its a questions of do you want to use it as your daily. The car can handle it, as long as you respect it, dont try to race everyone who looks at you the wrong way, every on ramp doenst need to be a launch pad ( I have this problem lol ) and being aware of its vitals at all times. I drive mine everyday and enjoy it everyday thats why i bought it. If it breaks Ill fix it simple as that. Some people dont like to work on there cars I acutally enjoy mine more when IM working on it.
